Hazelwood is seeking an IT Support Technician to join our group of companies in Nanaimo, BC. This is a brand new, full-time role. This is a great opportunity to get on board with a growing and entrepreneurial local company that works within the mining, manufacturing, real estate development, and renewable energy sectors. Please note that travel will be required within the local Nanaimo area, so a vehicle is required.

Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Support Technician is responsible for providing 1st tier help desk Information Technology (IT) system support services across the organization. He or she will assist users with hardware and software troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance, and will play a key role in diagnosing and resolving technical issues, and communicating with all users in the Hazelwood Group infrastructure. He or she may be required to assist with IT strategic planning, as well as identifying, selecting and deploying new technology to support organizational goals and objectives. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.

**Compensation**
- $24 to $26 per hour, depending on experience.

**Responsibilities**
- Provide internal IT support (computer & phone troubleshooting, software updates & fixes, hardware repair, server maintenance, network security, etc.).
- Diagnose and resolve problems and errors, and follow up with end-users to ensure full resolution of issues.
- Plan and execute end-user training as required.
- Assist with the planning, deployment, operation, and management of all IT services, and recommend appropriate technologies to improve corporate communications and end-user productivity as directed.
- Help to ensure functionality of Hazelwood’s LAN, WAN, VPN, and WLAN networks.
- Monitor equipment lifecycles, and end-to-end documentation of IT inventory.
- Assist the IT Manager with project management for IT-related undertakings and capacity planning as directed.
- Stay informed on new or emerging trends and technologies
- Create status reports as required; present findings to senior management.
- Liaise with vendors and service providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective acquisition of technology purchases; oversee warranties and service agreements.
- Act as an advocate for the IT department and its initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

**Requirements**:

- CompTIA A+, Fundamentals+, or similar certification, or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience required.
- Working knowledge of general office software (ie. Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, Sage 50, etc.)
- General overall knowledge of networking, operating system, and server architectures.
- Effective time management and prioritization skills.
- Quality business interpersonal and customer service skills
- Able to effectively communicate technical concepts and theories to non-technical audiences both verbally and in writing.
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability to troubleshoot effectively.

**Salary**: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
