The Shipping Federation of Canada is the national association that represents and promotes the interests of the owners, operators and agents of ships involved in Canada's world trade. Operating in the dynamic shipping industry since 1903, the Federation plays a key role in ensuring a safe, efficient, competitive, environmentally sustainable, and quality-oriented marine transportation system.

We are currently seeking a **Policy Analyst **for our Montreal, QC office. Reporting to the Vice President, the Policy Analyst is responsible for providing research and analytical support on emerging legislation and regulations within Canadian public policy, the Canadian transportation sector, and international trade as it relates to the interests of the Federation's member companies.

The right person for this role is a self-starter with a strong ability to communicate relevant public policy effectively and efficiently to various stakeholder audiences. The successful Policy Analyst must meet the key criteria below:
**Qualifications**

**Education & Experience**
- Must hold a diploma or degree from a post-secondary institution in business, public administration or policy, political science or relevant social sciences, an environmental discipline, or a relevant equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one (1) year of experience in a public policy, economic, legislative, or shipping industry environment or equivalent educational internships and/or research positions.

**Skills**
- Strong ability to analyze and interpret policy, program, and regulatory documentation in support of the needs of the Federation and its member companies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrating confidence in presenting research and findings to internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Have a drive to produce a high quality of work with accuracy and thoroughness.
- Proven ability to work well interdependently in a collaborative environment.
- Must possess strong English written and verbal communication skills. Must possess a minimum of verbal fluency in French.

**Position Overview**

The Policy Analyst will be responsible for (but not limited to):

- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on public policy issues in support of the Federation's policy work (including assistance to the Vice-President, the Manager, Marine Operations, and the Manager of Environmental and Legislative Affairs).
- Remain current with relevant legislation, economic trends, and developments in government policy, including but not limited to the regulation of international shipping, marine policy, and marine environmental protection, and determine relevancy to the Federation's position,
- Work in collaboration with other colleagues to prepare written communications, presentations, government submissions and other stakeholder communication reflecting the research and policy results and the Federation's position.
- Participate in internal and external committees and working groups with other industry associations, NGO's and industry regulators as required.
- Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, develop presentation materials, produce meeting minutes as required.
- Assist in coordinating/conducting educational activities, including by developing and updating course material.
- Assist with other special projects and communications activities as required.
