**Athletes in Action **(a division of Power To Change) is a ministry that seeks to help people know Jesus and experience his power to change the world through sport. No matter what type of work those involved with Athletes in Action (AIA) do, whether they are staff or volunteers, we understand that our work collectively is to further this overall mission. - **Position Overview**_
AIA Youth Initiatives Coaches are part of a coaching team that travel to communities within their region, with the purpose of running camps. Each coaching team focuses on using sport to help churches and local partners reach their community. These sports include soccer, basketball, volleyball and athletic development.
Through their position, coaches will potentially engage with athletes from the grassroots level, all the way to elite athletes at the end of their high school careers. Coaches will be expected to engage in the process of combating negative views of sport culture with the gospel, while inspiring churches to reach their local community.
- **Primary Objectives**_**:
**1. Introduce not yet believers to the gospel and provide opportunities for current believers to grow in spiritual maturity**:

- Coaches will be expected to help present AIA’s More Than a Game talks as well as lead small group discussions with participating athletes.
- Motivate, encourage and inspire church volunteers and campers to share their faith with friends, family, teammates and coaches.
- Help fight negative views of sport by sharing the gospel and coaching with the goal of transformation.

**2. Facilitate a camp experience that is first class.**:

- Attend coach’s training, camp meetings and orientations.
- Work closely with a coaching team, church volunteers and additional AIA staff to ensure roles and responsibilities are accomplished.

**3. Network and build relationships with key influencers in the sports community.**:

- Communicate the stories and experiences of camp with the Regional Director
- **Education & Experience**_**:

- You have varsity/post secondary sports involvement _(preferred, not required)_
- You have previous coaching experience _(preferred, not required)_
- You have a deep and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and desire to grow as a leader
- **Required Skills and Abilities**_**:

- You have the ability to understand and implement coaching tools and strategies to promote skill development in athletes.
- You have the ability to create a safe, fun and exciting learning environment
- You have the ability to work well within the structure of a team.
- **Preferred Skills and Abilities**_**:

- You have an understanding of and passion for the athletic world
- You have a heart for Evangelism and the ability to communicate the gospel clearly
- You have good time management, an ability to be flexible and willingness to take initiative
- You have the ability to communicate effectively with small or large groups.

The position is centrally funded. AIA gains funds through camper registration, grants and donations.
