**Language Requirements: *Must speak Rohingya**

**Organizational Overview**

Reception House Waterloo Region is a non-profit organization that enables the successful resettlement of newly-arrived refugees by providing temporary accommodation and orientation, assistance securing permanent housing, ongoing settlement and intensive case management services.

**Summary**

The Community Navigator is primarily responsible for working with government-assisted refugees to help them with immediate and essential resettlement services, including orientations, the assessment of needs and related referrals, links to essential federal and provincial programs, and life skills supports in their permanent accommodation. The goal of the Community Navigator is to facilitate a client’s transition to life in Canada and assist them in becoming self-sufficient. The Community Navigator is also responsible for maintaining reports on services delivered, collecting feedback, and participating in professional development activities and performing other duties as assigned. The Community Navigator works in concert with other agency staff, volunteers, and external partners.

**Job Duties**
- Provide initial reception to new arrivals; give residents instruction regarding the use and maintenance of temporary accommodation facility
- Assume primary responsibility for delivering initial orientation to all new clients
- Work collaboratively with the Case Manager and Housing Team to identify client needs and develop a plan for referrals and support
- Conduct regular follow ups to help clients meet their identified needs and goals
- Assist with the completion of required forms and registration for essential federal and provincial services (OHIP, SIN, GST and CCB tax credit, etc.)
- Orient and connect clients to several essential services and community resources, working collaboratively with the Reception House team
- Provide practical life-skills supports to clients in their own home, working collaboratively with the Life Skills Facilitator to build on skills already learned in temporary accommodation
- Conduct a home visit one week after a client has moved into permanent accommodation to assess how their resettlement is progressing and address any new needs that arise
- Attend a final home visit to conduct a Resettlement Assistance Program exit interview assessment, in conjunction with the Housing Navigator, and close off resettlement services
- Accurately and promptly maintain case notes and complete required reports and forms
- Accurately record services delivered to each client (the nature of the service, outcomes, and length of time spent on the service) to facilitate accurate reporting and tracking of program outcomes
- Provide feedback and assist with ongoing improvements to the Resettlement Assistance Program
- Attend staff meetings, mandatory training programs and actively participate as a team member
- Maintain strong, working relationships with community partners
- Perform other related duties as assigned

**Required Skills, Knowledge and Attributes**
- Be familiar with and adhere to the policies, procedures and practices of Reception House
- Detail oriented with excellent organization and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work with a high degree of dexterity, tact and confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, the ability to work with all levels of staff and various external stakeholders
- Demonstrated capacity-building approach to community engagement and partnerships
- Ability to accept and perform additional duties as needed to meet the mission of the organization
- Ability to be flexible, take initiative and use a proactive approach to tasks
- Clean Vulnerable Sector check required
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract required
- First Aid and CPR trained or willing to obtain certification

**Required Education and Work Experience**
- Post-secondary degree, diploma or work and education equivalent in Settlement Work, Social Work, Counselling or Education
- Minimum one year of experience in settlement or social service work (staff or volunteer)
- Demonstrated understanding of challenges faced by refugees and the agencies that serve them
- Strong knowledge of the community and its resources and services
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, particularly (Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to pick up new technology quickly, including databases and web content management systems
