The Fisheries department is currently seeking an organized and knowledgeable person to fill the role of Fisheries Department Assistant. The Fisheries Assistant reports directly to the Fisheries Manager and is responsible for providing administrative and operational support to the daily operation of the fisheries office and respective programs. Our programs focus on fisheries and habitat restoration/stewardship projects, including stock assessment, management of local salmon stocks and community fisheries. We also work and collaborate with Indigenous, government, and industry partners (e.g. Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance) for fisheries and habitat restoration projects.

**Responsibilities**:

- General organization of data, receipts, and contribution agreements/contracts into respective folders
- Data entry of field fisheries and habitat data
- Post licenses and notices for fisheries openings, closures and events
- Operation, organization, and maintenance of fisheries equipment, including vehicles and forklifts
- Responsible for the arrangement of repair and maintenance services for vehicles and other equipment as required
- Responsible for maintaining equipment signing in/out protocols
- Prepare meeting materials, supplies, and meeting minutes as required
- Answer calls and relay messages as needed for Fisheries Manager and other staff
- Provide support in preparing correspondence, documents, and reports relating to contribution agreements and financial tasks as required
- Maintain Fisheries Program calendar & schedules
- Arranging for meeting facilities, catering, travel, accommodation as needed
- General office organization and ensuring supplies are available
- Assist with the planning and organization of Fisheries activities, including mobilization-readiness for all field crews, and collection/organization of datasheets after each field session
- General pick-up and delivery of fisheries equipment and supplies
- Support transportation of fish from hatchery to the office during fishery season
- Aid in the selling of ice during fishery openings, including operating ice machine and shoveling ice into coolers/totes
- Opportunities available to participate in field monitoring programs

**Qualifications/Requirements**:

- Class 5 Drivers License is required, and ability to travel as needed using work vehicles
- Preferred college graduate or certificate of an approved secretarial or environmental program
- Prior experience working with First Nations is preferred
- Prior experience with secretarial duties and data entry is preferred
- Experience with operating trailers and hauling boats is preferred
- Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and protect sensitive information
- Must have working knowledge of MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials
- Strong organizational skills, time management, and task prioritization
- Must be able to manage multiple competing tasks and demands
- Capability for basic operation of machinery such as industrial ice machine, flat deck vehicle, and forklift (training available)
- Must have good interpersonal skills, and provides services in a culturally sensitive manner
- Good physical condition to go up and down ladders, shovel snow/ice, and help load fish into totes for transport
- Ability to occasionally work after hours as required during the fishing season
- Experience handling fish and fishing experience is a plus, although not required
- Ability and willingness to participate in basic field programs (e.g., planting, site visits at sloughs) are a plus, although not required

**Type of Position**: Full-time-Hourly position, 35 hrs/week. Additional hours and occasional weekend work may be required during fishing season (July-September).

**Salary Range**:$20-$30/hrs, depending on experience, and following the Sts’ailes salary grid
