The Developmental Support Assistant (formally Educational Assistant) works with the learning team to provide a variety of support, such as growth, development, and educational based the child's assessment and consultation. This is for children experiencing difficulties in social, developmental, communication, physical, play, and overall preschool skills development. The Developmental Support Assistant reports directly to the Coordinating Teacher who is a member of the learning team.

The Developmental Support Assistant works with a learning team (Coordinating Teacher, SLP, OT, PT) and helps to deliver services to multiple children in their respective programs.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support children in daily activities and social interactions.
- Work together as a team, to ensure the child’s individual goals and objectives are being met.
- Meet with the Coordinating Teacher, therapists (learning team) involved with the child.
- Integrate feedback, suggestions, or recommendations regarding the child made by learning team.
- Attend **mandatory** team meetings and training sessions.
- Maintain required documentation daily.
- May, on occasion, tend to various needs of the children (diapering, toileting, medical needs) when required.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector check; dated within 6 months or more recent to hire date. **Must be provided before start date at site.**:

- Minimum Level 1 Childcare Staff Certification (Child Development Assistant Certificate),. **MUST **be obtained within 3 months or hire date or sooner.
- Current certification in Standard Childcare First Aid and CPR/AED or Standard First Aid and CPR/AED. MUST be obtained within 3 months or hire date or sooner.
- Current Intervention Record Check (IRC); dated within 6 months or more recent to hire date;. MUST be obtained within 3 months or hire date or sooner.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset.
- Minimum** **travel requirement is **20-25 minutes **if utilizing personal vehicle / travel requirement may be extended if travelling by bus
- Flexibility to adjusted location requirements due to operational requirements

**TEAMWORK**
Attend regularly scheduled meetings of the learning team and the CPE staff, plus other meetings as established by the Director of CPE.
- Collaborate with Program Assistant (PA) when provided mentorship or coaching.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- This position works in a daycare and/or preschool setting between Monday to Friday.
- There is a requirement to travel between sites (personal vehicle, bus, etc.,).
- This position will be required to meet the following actions:

- Frequent kneeling and squatting up to 75 % of the shift.
- Potential walking and standing up to 75% of shift
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- In occasional circumstances, must have the ability to run to ensure child’s safety.
- Regular outdoor work, including times of inclement weather.
- Daily tasks may change depending on the specific needs of the children you are working with.

**Hours of Work**:

- Working Days: Monday to Friday
- Minimum of 9 hours to a maximum 30 hours a week,
- Shifts are scheduled between 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
- Community Options follows the Edmonton Public School Calendar and will be closed for the following dates:

- Winter Break
- Spring Break
- Stat Holidays (School PD days not included)

**Salary**:
$18.50 - $21.25 based on Childcare Certification Level.
