Job Summary

We are excited to announce that we are gearing up for our 23rd annual Calgary International Film Festival, and are looking forward to welcoming Testing Crew Members to our ranks. Serving as part of the Production Crew, the Film Testing Crew is dedicated solely to the uploading and testing of films at venues and maintaining the TMS (server for films). Potentially working late nights. This team will be working closely with our Print Traffic provider (Binder Productions) and maintaining a “3-2-1” film checklist.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management of CRU drives and movement of films from TMS to cinemas.
- Create film playlists on projection servers with internal festival pre-show material.
- Perform initial film testing on playback cinema. Testing includes visual and sound quality checks, closed captions, dialogue sync, and volume levels.
- Maintain the shared document “3-2-1” with Binder that tracks the status of all films (from arrival from filmmaker to successful departure on screen). Log playback errors if any.
- Run screenings at satellite venues (National Music Centre & Contemporary Calgary) with Binder-provided DCP laptops.
- Communicate and collaborate with projection and the front-of-house team as necessary
- Other tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Must Haves:

- Technically savvy
- Comfortable using computers and learning new software
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work both on your own and with a team

Assets:

- Experience working with cinema projectors
- Knowledge of, and experience with, DCP servers (GDC, Doremi/Dolby, etc.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of screening formats
- Knowledge of Vmix
- Knowledge of EasyDCP
- Comfortable using excel spreadsheets
- Experience using Slack, Asana, Google Drive
- Comfortable using sound and lighting boards
- Print Traffic experience at film festivals

Approximate Work Hours:
An approximation of hours per week is below, dependent on operational needs and business flow. It is understood that shift work, weekend work, and work on statutory holidays will be required.
- Involves some evening and weekend work, especially during the festival.

- A clear understanding of your comfort with computers and learning new systems
- Verbal communication skills, and examples of your capacity to communicate under pressure
- Examples of your capacity to manage multiple responsibilities under time pressure
