**Agency Overview**
Ventures Group Homes is a residential treatment facility that operates under the umbrella of child welfare and houses male youth ages 10-18 with a variety of mental health and behavioural issues. The goal of Ventures Group Homes is to promote positive behavioural change and personal growth in our youth to assist them with working through identified problems and meeting set goals.
**Position Summary and Key Responsibilities**
Reporting to the Executive Director and the agency’s Registered Psychotherapist, the Behavioural Assistant is responsible for providing services to residents and guidance to staff at Ventures Group Homes, that include but are not limited to:
- Developing a positive working alliance and therapeutic rapport with Ventures Residents
- Conducting mental health and/or behavioural assessments
- Developing collaborative treatment goals based on risk and need areas
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring individualized and group treatment plans
- Developing safety plans with the Program Manager and Executive Director as required for individual youth
- Providing individual and group counselling using evidence-based and best-practice treatment interventions
- Following treatment suggestions and plans as created and recommended by Ventures Psychotherapist
- Record keeping and daily notes on interactions with youth
- Collaborating and communicating with other service providers and/or community members as needed
- Advocating for youth and assisting with referrals as needed
- Work closely with Case Managers/Prime Workers/Program Supervisors
- Attending relevant appointments with youth
- Providing input into youth Plan of Cares and attending Plan of Care Meetings
- Attending monthly supervision with Ventures Psychotherapist
Additionally, the Behavioural Assistant is responsible for working directly with Ventures staff by providing guidance, support, and assisting with behavioural management strategies while on the floor. The Behavioural Assistant may be asked to provide direct training to staff, as required.
**Education/ Work Experience**:
The successful applicant will possess a Degree in Counselling and/or Psychology or related field with preference given to those who have graduated from the Honours Bachelor of Behavioural Psychology Program
The successful applicant will also have a minimum of 2 years paid work experience providing assessment and behavioural intervention to youth.
**Qualifications (Knowledge and Skills)**:
- Broad knowledge of behavioural disorders, mental illness, diagnosis and treatment;
- Knowledge of attachment theory, as well as the impact of child abuse and neglect, on the overall functioning of youth;
- Knowledge of criminogenic risk factors leading to criminal behaviour;
- Familiarity with Canadian Provincial and Federal legislation including the Child & Family Services Act and Youth Criminal Justice Act;
- Interviewing and assessment skills and experience;
- Knowledge and experience developing and implementing best-practice treatment interventions for youth with mental health and behavioural disorders in the realms of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy; etc
- Ability to work within multi-disciplinary team environment;
- Awareness of community resources and experiencing providing referrals;
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills;
- Proven ability to establish therapeutic rapport with difficult to engage youth;
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills;
In addition,
- Valid Class “G” Driver’s License and use of own vehicle is required;
- Ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, and weekends is required;
- Current First Aid/ CPR-C Certificate is preferred;
- Knowledge and training in suicide assessment and intervention is considered an asset;
- Background Check (CPIC) will need to be provided at time of hire
- ASIST certified
- CPI certified (can provide training)
