**ABOUT THE ROLE**

The **Youth Worker, Day Treatment** is a casual role that provides therapeutic support in a classroom environment to address behavioral and mental health issues as they arise; and redirect inappropriate behavior by modelling the appropriate behavior and teaching skills to manage emotional dysregulation for the purpose of reintegrating the youth into a mainstream classroom, community program or employment program. To support the classroom teacher in helping clients to engage in the academic and therapeutic components of the program

**_ Salary range: _**_$30.18 to $35.14 per hour_

**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
- Provide direct supervision for clients in the program to ensure their safety as well as their engagement in the academic and treatment components of the program.
- Provide support to clients with their mental health and wellbeing in the classroom and support them in their academic engagement daily.
- Provide in-vivo coaching and support to clients when they are having difficulties.
- Use the resources in the classroom to facilitate group activities during treatment period.
- Facilitate Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills review during DBT group days
- Facilitate one period of group therapy/life skills activity per shift.
- Ensure that relevant documentation is completed on the Client Record (CR) in a timely manner.
- Maintain, in cooperation with other team members, the physical facilities of the program sites in accordance with accepted norms of health and safety.

**THE “MUST HAVES”**

The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:

- College diploma in Child and Youth work (CYW) or Child and Youth Care (CYC)
- Minimum 1 year relevant experience.
- Knowledge of behaviour management principles and crisis management skills.
- Knowledge and experience facilitating mental health groups.
- Experience working in a school environment
- Awareness of the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
- An understanding of Anti-Black Racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health when working with clients and their families.
- Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of and imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts for the client.

**THE ‘NICE TO HAVES’**
- A valid Ontario Driver’s license and use of a vehicle
- Knowledge of Child and Youth, Family Service Act an asset.
- Knowledge of and certification in CPI and CPR / First Aid.
- Knowledge of and experience with DBT.
- Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
- Knowledge of the cultural diversity of communities served by the agency.
- Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
