HIRING 4 POSITIONS

Positions work a varied work week, Monday - Sunday, varied day shift hours.

Successful applicants will join the maintenance team and support all associated activities to review and repair the residence buildings over the summer. Individuals will learn how to perform general maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures, doors, windows, hardware, light fixtures, walls and floors.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Building Operations and Services, Student Housing and Community Services Okanagan, this position performs a variety of work in general maintenance and repairs of buildings, grounds, equipment, and performs other related duties as required.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

Reports directly to the Manager of Building Operations and Services, Student Housing and Community Services Okanagan and receives daily instruction from the Facilities Coordinator. Maintains collegial relationships with a variety of internal and external groups including: Managers from Residence Life, Housing Administration, Conference and Accommodation, and contract service providers, Central Facilities Staff, suppliers and regulatory bodies.

WORK PERFORMED
- Provides on demand and project related carpentry work including but not limited to the repair and installation of interior and exterior door issues, installation of shelving, cabinetry countertops, monitor mounts, whiteboards, trim and flexible baseboards
- Performs drywall, painting and floor covering repairs to damaged and worn areas
- Repairs and modifies student room, office and common space furniture
- Installs, maintains and makes minor repairs to, Salto lock system, door hardware, safes, tools, kitchen appliances and equipment
- Reviews and repairs plumbing fixtures including: replacement of toilets, urinals, taps-sets, shower fixtures and unclogging of toilets, showers, kitchen and bathroom sinks
- Reviews and repairs electrical systems including: light bulb replacement and resetting of breakers
- Inspects, troubleshoots, and performs minor repairs and basic level maintenance of heating and cooling equipment
- Liaises repairs and maintenance activities with internal (electricians, engineers and fire safety) and external (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, appliance repair, flooring, paint etc.) contractors
- Performs annual testing and identification of fire extinguishers as well as replacement or refilling, and recertification in accordance with the BC Fire code
- Carries out removal of snow from residence sidewalks, common pedestrian areas and applies sand de-icing in a timely manner to enhance safety on campus
- Provides emergency response to building issues resulting from leaks, plugs and floods
- Cleans up and removes garbage from facilities and around waste/recycling enclosures, smoking gazebos and buildings
- Maintains and repairs residence grounds
- Provides on demand and project related concrete repairs and improvements including assessment of stairs, sidewalks, curbs and common areas
- Supports ordering and organizing of operational materials
- Monitors and maintains appropriate stock of materials for custodial and maintenance needs.
- Supports proper disposal of surplus goods
- Conducts or coordinates regular servicing on department owned vehicles, golf carts, gas powered equipment and tools
- Makes minor purchases for maintenance related items using a visa card
- Recommends maintenance requirements and improvements
- Keeps and maintains necessary administrative and systems records, such as log books, supply records, and tool inventories
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance tasks
- Supports the Facilities Coordinator with helping train and review summer auxiliary staff repairs to ensure Housing service standards have been performed
- Responds to after-hours call outs when necessary
