**Job Summary**
The Manager, Shelter Care and Training, reporting to the Director, Animal Sheltering, is responsible for the overall management of the Shelter Training and Shelter Care teams. This position holds the responsibility overseeing the operation of the animal shelter care facilities, managing the enrichment and training programs, and providing expertise as a Certified Animal Trainer when needed. The incumbent has autonomy in decision-making regarding intake capacity for behaviour-related cases in accordance with the quality care standards. The Manager, Shelter Care and Training is also responsible for scheduling the shelter care and training teams, as well as the supervision, training, development, and counseling of the care staff, trainers, and volunteers within Shelter Programs.

**Main Duties/Responsibilities**
- Direct and manage the operation of the shelter care and training functions, ensuring efficient operation of both services and others.
- Manage Animal Care Workers, Shelter Certified Trainers, and Shelter Care Supervisors
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff and volunteers, ensuring compliance with animal care, socialization, enrichment, and behaviour guidelines.
- Oversee the training and behaviour modification plans of animals in our care, elevating complex cases when necessary.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of policies/protocols related to cleaning and sanitation, animal training and enrichment, and other areas relevant to the scope of the position.
- Act as a primary point of contact for any elevated concerns or issues related to shelter care, training and enrichment.
- Foster, promote, support and drive inclusion and influence others to promote, embrace and progress Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at THS.
- Supervise staff, including scheduling, reviewing work, training, and personnel action such as hiring, transferring, promoting, disciplining, and conducting performance reviews.
- Responsible for the creating and administration of scheduling of Shelter Care and Shelter Training staff.
- Create and implement training systems for all staff and volunteers under purview.
- Ensure the delivery and provision of top-quality customer service and client care.
- Lead and foster an environment of teamwork and cooperation.
- Support the Division Management Team in evaluating new and existing programs and services, to identify, develop and implement plans for areas that require improvement.
- Assist with the development and monitoring of department budgets and operating plans.
- Manage data relating to behaviour in the shelter-related record-keeping software, ensuring accurate data entry protocols and system troubleshooting.
- Prepare and analyze reports on metrics relevant to the shelter care departments.
- Oversee timesheet and payroll data entry adjustments such as recording sick days, vacation requests and lieu time.
- Be aware of and work within the regulations of all Toronto Humane Society policies and protocols.
