Job Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Pay & Benefits, this important role is responsible for processing payroll and benefits, implementing payroll processes and procedures, performing calculations and analyzing data. This position also resolves issues related to pay, benefits and leaves and provides advice and training to employees.

Key Accountabilities- Processes a bi-weekly payroll for employees.- Processes a quarterly payroll for Board members.- Interprets and applies taxation laws, benefits and pension legislation as required to correctly calculate and process payroll and employee deductions.- Processes a variety of employee pay and benefit transactions including but not limited to timetracking and absence updates; retro calculations including calculating amounts where required; benefit updates; pension adjustments, and arrears calculations.- Processing the remittance of employee deductions and employer contributions for various deductions such as CPP, EI, and Income Tax to Receiver General.- Processes terminations, including determining amounts owing to BCA, processing cancellation of benefits, producing a Record of Employment, preparing Pension Plan Termination Notices and Group Life Conversion notices, garnishments etc.- Responds to internal/external client inquiries and resolves problems related to pay, benefits and leaves.- Assists with year-end balancing and reconciliation of payroll and benefit-related balance sheet accounts, and with the preparation of annual returns and documents such as T4’s, T4A’s, T4ANR’s (Non Resident Contractors) and T2200’s.- Calculate and process accounts receivable transactions related to employee payments.- Analyzes and updates historical information to meet internal and external financial reporting requirements including monthly financial reports for the Executive Committee, and quarterly reports for the Board.- Provides advice to BCA staff and managers on the Collective agreement, payroll policies and procedures; and adapts payroll information systems/reports in response to financial requirements.- Operates corporate payroll and management information systems, including various components and controls; monitors payroll systems to ensure effective security, detection of fraud and errors, and safeguarding of assets.- Participates in the implementation and ongoing management of the Enterprise Resource Planning systems; identifies training required by users or suggests changes; implements new or modified corporate financial modules and user interfaces; analyzes user requirements to address functionality deficiencies, new releases and end user input.
