A central element of the CERC strategy is the construction and leverage of deeply phenotyped large cohorts. These cohorts will serve as recruitment sources for interventional studies to develop innovative targeted therapeutics like RNA-based therapies designed to prevent and/or treat specific common and rare diseases. To that end, a collaboration has been established with the Lady Davis Institute (LDI) at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) in Montreal, under the supervision of Professor Brent Richards. Under this collaboration and within the framework of the Québec COVID-19 Biobank, the Genomic Medicine CERC initiative and JGH/LDI have built the largest hospital-based cohort of COVID-19 patients in the country. Analysis of deep, multi-*omic data coupled with detailed phenotypic information has led to several discoveries pertaining to the genetic susceptibility, severity and outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This active collaboration will be expanded to additional McGill affiliated hospitals to tackle other common and rare conditions, with the goal to successfully accelerate the discovery and development of innovative therapies for specific unmet needs.
Job Duties
1. Develop an independent research program in the field of human genetics to accelerate genetically-driven drug development;
2. Design, implement and lead innovative recall-by-genotype studies or other novel design trials to demonstrate proof-of-concept for investigational medicines to prevent or treat specific common and rare diseases;
4. Contribute to teaching in the classroom and by assuring an inclusive, supportive training environment that will attract top graduate students from around the world.
All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University and the wider scholarly community. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute the scientific environment of the McGill Institute for Genomic Medicine and will be required to participate in classroom instruction and graduate student supervision within the guidelines of the Department of Human Genetics. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas is expected.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- A track record of successful collaborative research is required;
- Experience in drug discovery and development will be considered an asset;
- Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French will be considered an asset.
