**Position Overview**

The _**Emergency Management & Education Specialist**_ is a dynamic person who will take on various tasks and projects toward fully implementing the EM Program. The work will be varied and will include working on memoranda of understanding collaborating with community partners, managing training activities and exercises for volunteers; tracking and maintaining inventory, and development a strategy with the team to implement an Emergency Management program with SJA NS/PEI Council.

The _**Emergency Management & Education Specialist**_ will report to the Director of Community Services and will work closely with other members of the NS/PEI Council staff, specifically our community services department. Relationship building with various stakeholders both within and outside the organization will be imperative to success.

**Responsibilities**
- Acting as the primary point of contact for Emergency Response Unit leadership and staff regarding the establishment, training, administration, and deployment of ERUs.
- Coordinating Council responses to Requests for Service, acting as the point-of-contact for deployment planning and execution.
- Supporting volunteer needs that reflect the procedures and policies set out by our community programs department.
- Plan and implement educational and professional development opportunities for volunteers.
- Coordinate training for volunteers as needed for their role.
- Reviewing existing provincial and municipal Memoranda of Understanding; and working with local units/branches to establish new MOUs for EM services.
- Representing the Council at meetings with Provincial EM officials, NGO alliances, Municipal Associations, and other EM related groups and agencies.
- Reviewing the onboarding, training, and development pathways, and ensure all ERU volunteers have completed the necessary components.
- Reviewing and ensuring all EM Program administrative and training materials are available and shared.
- Establishing and maintaining an Inventory Control system for equipment and supplies for the Emergency Response Units and the EM Program.
- Entering and tracking necessary information in the Volunteer Management System to produce reports for use by local, provincial, and national stakeholders and decision makers.

**Qualifications**
- University degree or college diploma in Emergency or Disaster Management or equivalent experience
- Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manger (AEM) would be considered an asset.

**Requirements**:

- Excellent time management and strong prioritization skills to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- A dynamic personality able to generate and maintain professional relationships both within SJA and with external partners.
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Experience planning, developing and conducting risk assessments related to emergency management.
- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to write for multiple different audiences.
- Ability to produce outputs in a timely manner.
- A post-secondary diploma/degree or a suitable combination of education and working experience.
- Experience within the not-for-profit sector is an asset.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Holds valid driver’s license
- Travel throughout NS/PEI as required
- Occasional evenings and weekends as require

**Job Types**: Full-time, Contract
Contract length: 36 months

**Salary**: $40,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
