**SCOPE**

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Work closely with senior leaders, key decision-makers and other stakeholders to develop, implement and maintain communication strategies, plans and tactics that achieve both their unit-specific communications goals, and the goals of the University as a whole. In collaboration with the Director, provide strategic advice to senior leaders regarding the likely communications impacts of operational decisions, and options for addressing them.
- Develop, manage and supervise and oversee the production of content and materials for a variety of media and platforms in consultation with University stakeholders. Create workback plans, set project kick-off meetings and oversee project timelines and production schedules. Ensure that all content is clear, well written, uses appropriate imagery and tone of voice, targets intended audiences, reflects Concordia’s identity and brand and is in line with Concordia’s priorities and strategic directions. Tasks include but are not limited to writing, editing and proofreading in English and French, fact-checking, interviewing, reviewing, researching info, liaising with colleagues, and coordinating projects.
- Work to strengthen and build upon the reputation of the University by a) identifying reputational opportunities and mitigating potential issues b) monitoring Concordia’s communications landscape and identifying/ advising on potential impacts of upcoming issues and opportunities. Advise the Director on internal communications challenges and opportunities.
- Make updates to the Concordia website, in areas the pertain to the assigned sectors, in a proactive manner in line with communications plans.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across UCS and Concordia to ensure full alignment of communications initiatives and messaging.
- Coordinate media activities on behalf of the sector and in collaboration with Media Relations and Public Affairs team: prepare news releases and information for the media, prepare speaking notes and background information.
- Draft executive-level messages, speaking notes, statements and other documents.
- Hire, train, schedule, assign work, monitor, evaluate, and motivate unit personnel.
- Develop benchmarks, identify best practices as well as measures for evaluating the effectiveness of communications activities. Establish a mechanism/process to regularly inform and educate colleagues and stakeholders about results and insights.
- Stay abreast of internal communications trends and best practices, particularly in the higher education sector.
- Act as back-up or represent the Director of Institutional Communications during his/her absence for sector-related needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director, Institutional Communications.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor's Degree and four to seven years of experience in communications, with at least two years of supervisory and/or managerial experience.
- Project Management certification and Change Management certification are assets.
- Proven experience working with senior-level decision-makers.
- Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English to write fluently and persuasively on sensitive and complex topics; good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French, to give and understand descriptions that may involve complicated details; and able to support opinions.
- Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and To Do.
- Intermediate experience with collaboration tools & platforms (e.g. Teams, Sharepoint, OneDrive).
- Demonstrated experience working with large web content management systems.
- Proven track record of success in conceptualizing, developing and implementing sophisticated and differentiated marketing and communication strategies.
- Demonstrated skills in presenting, interviewing, writing, copywriting, editing, and proofreading.
