**Position Summary**:
The Inpatient Unit Manager oversees all aspects of operation on the 25 bed Inpatient Unit. The incumbent will provide leadership, support and direction to the Inpatient Unit staff to ensure quality patient care is delivered efficiently, consistently and effectively. This includes three (3) main areas of management:
- Supervisory: Clinical Resource Nurse, Nurses, Psychiatric Nursing Assistants, Social Workers, Occupational Therapist, Nurse Educator/IPC, Activities Staff, Ward Clerk and Administrative Assistant/Scheduler.
- Clinical: Establishing standards of care for the Inpatient Unit and monitoring the delivery of care, addressing clinical concerns, meeting regularly with psychiatry, etc.
- Administrative: Overseeing the Inpatient Unit budget, developing and implementing clinical policies, ensuring operations of the inpatient unit is consistent with evidenced based practices and relevant standards, regulations, legislations and providing Inpatient Unit reports to the Eden Clinical Services Board, in consultation with Program Director.

This position requires the incumbent to participate in the rotating on-call schedule with other members of management.

**Qualifications**:
**Education/Certification**:

- Must have a current active registration in good standing from the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba or College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
- A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Current certificates in Basic Cardiac Life Support, NVCI and ASIST or willing to obtain certification.
- Formal education or training in healthcare leadership/clinical management an asset.

**Experience**:

- Five (5) years minimum clinical experience in a psychiatric setting/nursing unit required.
- Previous management experience in a unionized healthcare environment preferred.

**Knowledge, Skills and Ability**:

- Strong clinical and supervisory skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage departmental budgets.
- Knowledge of relevant acts, regulations, legislations and inquests including the Manitoba Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Protection for Persons in Care, Workplace Safety and Health Act and Emergency Preparedness.
- Adherence to and ability to demonstrate Standards and Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses and/or Psychiatric Nurses, and legislative requirements of the nursing profession.
- Thorough knowledge and interpretation of the respective Inpatient Unit collective agreements (MNU, MAHCP, CUPE), as well as Eden policies and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of the management team.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, team building, crisis management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain positive and effective interpersonal relationships with staff, medical team, patients, families and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
- Demonstrated knowledge in continuous quality improvements.
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse patient and staff population.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the delivery of recovery-oriented practice and client centered care.
- Experience in hiring, training, developing, supervising and appraising staff in a unionized environment.
- Strong organizational skills and flexibility to meet the demands of the position.
- Proficient in the use of office equipment and other technical equipment, must be competent in Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams/BCare, EMR.
- Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job including crisis intervention, irregular work hours and responding to after hour calls (on a rotating basis).
