Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Purchasing Agent to join our team. As a Purchasing Agent, you will be responsible for managing the procurement process, negotiating with vendors, and ensuring the timely delivery of goods and services. Your role will be crucial in maintaining an efficient supply chain and supporting our organization's operations.

Main day to day operations for Purchasing:

- Purchasing building materials - Lumber, Plywood, Posts, Fencing, Concrete, etc.
- Purchasing for items inside the store - Hardware, Paint, Sundries, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.
- Double checking inventory counts in the system when purchasing and adjusting qty on hand when necessary after investigation.
- Using "Stock Reports" as well as physically going around the store/yard to check inventory levels and make orders based on findings.
- Comparing pricing on similar items between suppliers to ensure best cost is received. Having conversations with suppliers to see if they can help out with making costs more competitive.
- Ensuring Purchase Orders are accurate with updated supplier skus, correct pricing, ETA, and confirming that the supplier's confirmation shows the correct items you ordered to avoid any mis-ships.
- Always ask for a priced confirmation to update your own PO's pricing & clarify that they have the correct items on their paperwork.
- Write notes in the PO to communicate with the receiver.
- Staying on top of supplier's promos and bookings and buying strategically with the lowered costs.
- After matching the price from your PO to the supplier confirmation, then check through the retail pricing of those items to make sure we are not losing money with any price increases.
- Checking retail prices on other items around the store and yard from time to time to make sure we are still competitive.
- Keeping your ears open for customer requested items to bring into the store as a new stocking item.
- Scheduling your PO's to be picked up and combining it with multiple PO's per one trip, along with customer deliveries to maximize the driver's time.

Secondary duties
- Answering phone calls if a cashier is not available.
- Creating sales orders for customers for in stock items or/and special order materials.
- Running through cash sales at the till when required.
- Familiarizing with customers to help create a welcoming atmosphere (Being personable but not personal).
- Assisting coworkers with opening and closing duties.

**Requirements**:

- Purchasing experience is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of procurement principles, practices, and procedures
- Proficient in using purchasing systems and software
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate supplier performance, market trends, and cost-saving opportunities
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external vendors

Pay: From $24.00 per hour
