Student Support & Retention Worker*
**Term of Employment: January 20, 2023 to June 23, 2023**
**Rate of Pay: $25.80 - $34.91 per hour**
**Location: Henlow Campus and 2150 Chevrier Blvd., and/or remotely, as required**
**Monday to Friday, 12 - 25 hours / week**

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Industry Training and Continuing Education, the Student Support & Retention Worker will support students who are participating in a funded “Women of Steel Forging Forward” pre-employment welding program. This program is designed to break down barriers experienced in the workplace and encourage more women to choose careers in welding, welding-related and skilled trades. Participants in this program will include women, and those who identify as women or non-binary, including individuals from designated equity groups such as Indigenous, newcomer, persons with disabilities, and/or women with a prolonged detachment from the labour force. This position will support students as they work towards achieving their academic and employment goals, and will provide students with social support by listening, mentoring, and offering guidance and suggestions for wrap-around resources.
- The hours of work will generally be 25 hours/week, Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00pm, with the exception of seven (7) weeks which will be scheduled at 12 hours/week.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: *
- Serve as member of an interdisciplinary team of instructors and staff in supporting and working with women, and those who identify as women or non-binary, from target equity groups in the Women of Steel Forging Forward pre-employment pilot program;
- Assist with student recruitment, assessment, and admission into the program;
- Collaborate with MITT ITCE Coordinator on the coordination and execution of the program’s interview and assessment process;
- Communicate with selected students to aid in their transition into training;
- Organize and maintain accurate and up-to-date confidential student files and case records, program files and administrative records as required;
- During training: meet with students on an ongoing basis to assess their progress, offer verbal guidance, support and wrap-around supports, and provide referrals to social service agencies for additional resources as required;
- Promotes work-ready behaviours and address absenteeism by implementing appropriate administrative processes;
- Continue to connect with students on a regular basis while students are on work practicum to address any transition support needs;
- Provide ongoing, continuous support to the learners from program entry through to their three-week work practicum; serving as an additional resource to ensure a successful work placement and increase their readiness and potential for employment;
- Record and provide documentation of best practices achieved within the scope of the project in the spirit of continuous improvement, and make recommendations regarding program sustainability;
- Maintains a network of community resources and personal support service providers for students during the program.

**Required Qualifications and Experience**:

- A combination of related education and experience may be considered._
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field (i.e. Bachelor of Social Work or social sciences) or equivalent.
- Experience supporting women, and/or those who identify as women or non-binary from targeted equity groups (preferred minimum 1-year work experience)
