**Volunteer Position Summary**

The Social Planning Council of Oxford is working on a project called the Many Faces of Urban and Rural Displacement to hear people’s stories and fill in the gaps in tenants’ understanding of their rights. Many people are experiencing physical displacement: being forced to leave their homes due to eviction related to renovations and redevelopment, moving due to rising rent costs, or because of experiences of discrimination and/or harassment. We are working with communities across Ontario to make policy changes but this local part of the project will be focused around tenants in Oxford County understanding their rights.

We are seeking four volunteers from Oxford County who have experience as a tenant and an interest in tenants’ rights. We will work together to figure out how we will help tenants understand their rights and then put this in place by connecting with community members and assisting them. This volunteer position is for 3 to 9 hours per month, with volunteers receiving an honoria for the hours that they complete.

**Volunteer Skills and Abilities**
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Strong communication skills and able to show empathy
- Interest in your community; passionate about tenant rights

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Guides and makes decisions surrounding the development of community-based efforts to close identified gaps in tenants’ understanding of their rights
- Attends meetings
- Implements the project/approach that the group decides on
- Identifies and engages with tenants/tenants’ associations in the community to build awareness and connections
- Completes learning related to tenants’ rights, collective impact, advocacy and other topics relevant to the project
- Performs other duties as required

- Must live in Oxford County
- This is a volunteer position with the project officially ending in July 2023 with potential of extension beyond this
- Volunteers will receive an honoraria for service
- This is an excellent networking opportunity as volunteers will have a chance to meet and engage with members of the community in a meaningful way.
