Visitor Services Counsellor

We are searching for the ideal individual to join the Tourism Nanaimo team as a Visitor Services Counsellor. This role will have a unique opportunity to act as an ambassador for Nanaimo, and the surrounding area, through the delivery of exemplary visitor and customer services by sharing your passion and knowledge of Nanaimo and the region with travellers, residents and the community alike.

**Responsibilities**:
Visitor Services Counsellors have a strong appreciation for the importance of providing exceptional customer service and will actively seek means to improve visitor services and the local experience. A Visitor Service Counsellor will need the understanding that information provided to guests varies based on individual needs and interests and are able to customize the information to accommodate requests.
- Deliver exceptional customer service tailored to individual visitor needs and interests.
- Share knowledge about upcoming events, local cuisine, attractions and scenic spots.
- Provide guides, maps, and partner information to visitors.
- Educate visitors about the best hiking trails and outdoor activities.
- Assist in reservations for accommodations and transportation.
- Inform visitors about local events and distribute maps and brochures.
- Represent the Visitor Centre at events.
- Support management with volunteer coordination and monthly reporting

**Requirements**:

- Outgoing and welcoming personality.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of local attractions, activities, and events.
- Excellent intercultural communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment, work independently or in a team.
- Interest in the tourism/hospitality industry and willingness to work weekends and holidays.
