**The Role**

This position is responsible for providing therapeutic counselling to children, youth and families with an identified child or youth where disordered eating has been identified as significant, or who are presenting with body image related concerns. This position also provides therapeutic counselling that addresses and alleviates concerns with respect to youth and family functioning and trauma resulting from sexual abuse. The counsellor will consult with children/youth and their families to build self-support and resolve issues that undermine coping skills to overcome presenting concerns.

Therapeutic processes will be implemented to address the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral responses of the persons served. Individual sessions will be designed to enhance the child’s/youth’s self-esteem, body image, assertiveness, and communication skills and to alleviate the trauma which victims of sexual abuse can experience. General responsibilities will require the individual to possess strong clinical skills, a well-rounded knowledge base of therapeutic issues, proven skills in creating a therapeutic climate and a mature, independent, resourceful approach to work.

**Specific Functions**:
Prioritize needs of referred clients and plan interventions as appropriate such as;
- assessment and case intervention
- case planning and coordination
- family support and crisis intervention
- advocacy
- transition/discharge and follow-up referral

**Education, Training and Experience**:

- M.A., M.Ed. M.S.W., with advanced training in cognitive and behavioral therapies.
- A minimum of two years providing direct clinical services to youth and/or their families.
- Knowledge of therapeutic approaches address and alleviate concerns with respect to youth and family functioning and eating disorders.
- Knowledge of therapeutic approaches address and alleviate concerns with respect to youth and family functioning and trauma resulting from sexual abuse.
- Affiliation with a recognized professional body.
- Familiarity with community resources, and ability to work in an integrated capacity with referred families and complementary resources.
- Knowledge of the Child, Family and Community Services Act, BC Benefits Act, Infants Act, Mental Health Act, Young Offenders Act, and other acts as they apply.
- CPR/First Aid certification, as applicable.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $33.00-$39.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 22 per week
