_The Fred Douglas Society is a not for profit organization and a leader in seniors care, housing, programs and services, consisting of a Personal Care Home, Independent Living, Supportive Housing and Life Lease Apartments. _

Fred Douglas Society is seeking an experienced **Spiritual Care Coordinator** to provide resident spiritual and religious care and programs in our Personal Care Home - Fred Douglas Lodge and Supportive Housing - Heritage House. This is a permanent.8 EFT position.

Reporting to the CEO the Spiritual Care Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordination, execution and evaluation of resident spiritual and religious care and its related programs.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Works within the framework of the philosophy, policies and procedures of Fred Douglas Society (FDS), as an outreach ministry of The United Church of Canada. Coordinates and/or provides religious and spiritual care to all residents, tenants, employees and visitors, regardless of their faith affiliations, choices, religio-ethnic-cultural traditions and sexual orientation.
- Plans, develops and implements programs to meet the religious and spiritual needs of the residents, tenants, families and staff
- Networks with community faith representatives (local clergy) for the provision of chapel services, pastoral support and sacraments for residents.
- Conducts spiritual assessments/screening for Fred Douglas Lodge residents and Fred Douglas Heritage House tenants.
- Provides end of life, grief and loss counselling and support to residents/tenants, families and staff.
- Functions as part of the interdisciplinary team
- Develops and provides spiritual care education to staff.
- Assists in the development and review of policies and procedures related to spiritual care and related programs.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education**:

- University Degree in a related discipline
- Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.) or equivalent
- Graduate of a program in theological or pastoral studies or equivalent is preferred or a combination of relevant education and / or work experience

**Experience**:

- Three (3) years chaplaincy or pastoral work experience - preference given to those with experience in a long term care setting.
- Spiritual and religious care experience working with older adults, persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and palliative care.
- Experience working in geriatric mental health an asset.
- Knowledge of cognitive and physical impairments required.
- Knowledge of and appreciation for the religious community that encompasses all denominations and faith traditions to support the development and maintenance of spiritual and religious care programs.
- Effective supervisory, interpersonal and communication skills with community faith representatives (clergy), volunteers, families, and co-workers, and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated team player with an ability to exercise good judgement, take initiative, use discretion and work independently.
- Proven ability and/or capacity to orient, train, and monitor pastoral volunteers and students.

**Skills**:

- Must have faith group affiliation and endorsement
- Good physical, emotional and spiritual health
- Willingness to support the FDS’s “Statement of Values on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)” as well as related WRHA policies and protocols
- Ability to foster positive working relationships as part of a team in a multi-faith, interdisciplinary organization
- Ability to identify human beings as whole persons with inter-related needs (holistic approach).
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer programs especially, but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Effective oral, written and non-verbal communication skills.
- Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development to maintain professional competencies, accountability and credibility.
