The job supports deaf and hard-of-hearing students with an emphasis on academic success. The job provides expert advice and leadership related to hearing loss and deafness. The job assesses and evaluates the learning needs of students and tailors personalized programs to support them.

The incumbent works collaboratively with educational and multi-disciplinary teams to provide service and program delivery. The incumbent provides guidance regarding students with hearing impairments in both Division programs and the regular community classroom, ensuring:

- Communication access including speech, oral, auditory, verbal, American Sign Language, Signed Exact Language
- Provision of programming/teaching adaptations and modifications
- Direct instructional support and services
- Supporting assistive technology
- Environmental evaluation and adaptations
- Assisting with registration and accessing specialized services

Development, implementation, and monitoring of technology include ongoing evaluation, modeling, coaching, and training for staff and parents/guardians on the full continuum of support. The incumbent functions as a diagnostic team member and provides ongoing technical assistance to students, Division staff, and parents/guardians.

**Job** **Responsibilities**:
**Assessment and Evaluation**
- Conduct and interpret functional hearing assessments
- Administer, describe, analyze, and report test results
- Consult with diagnosticians, teachers, students, and parents concerning evaluations, modifications, and test administrations
- Provide assessment, instruction, and consultation to educational team members on issues related to assistive technology, program implementation, and curricular access
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team collaboration for students with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities
- Interpret, integrate, and synthesize evaluative information to make recommendations and develop strategies for interventions and services for students
- Foster the development of augmentative, language-rich environments using low to high-technology systems for the purpose of communication across settings, including augmentative and alternative communication

**Implementation of Strategies**
- Participate in transition planning
- Implement strategies for students with significant learning challenges
- Plan, develop and prepare short
- and long-range plans with educational teams
- Provide effective instructional strategies for adapting or modifying curriculum to meet the needs of individual students for implementation within the school setting
- Contribute to the development of the IPP with recommendations for goals, strategies, accommodations, modifications, and learning styles
- Provide diagnostic services for students referred through a systematic referral process for the purpose of assessing AT needs, and develop and facilitate implementation plan

**Leadership and Consultation**
- Work with educational teams, Inclusive Consultants, and Division Multi-Disciplinary teams to support students
- Provide guidance and support to schools
- Provide programming and equipment suggestions to enhance learning
- Collaborate with colleagues and parents/guardians to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective individualized program programs
- Communicate and liaise with community agencies
- Consult with teachers, Sign Language Interpreters, therapeutic and educational assistants and contribute to shared platforms for collaboration
- Serve as a resource for equal access to technology and provision of academic materials in alternative formats for students
- Build resources that are accessible to teams
- Conduct follow-up visits with teams in support of the Collaborative Response Model and professional learning opportunities
- Provide assessment, instruction, and consultation to educational team members on issues related to assistive technology, especially FM systems, hearing aids, and classroom sound field distribution systems**
**Professional Development**
