As an integral member of our team, the Chiropodist will play a vital role in providing therapeutic treatment for physical, mental and medical conditions to enhance the overall well-being of our clients. Your expertise, combined with a collaborative approach, will contribute to the success of our multidisciplinary patient care model.

Supportive administrative staff handle patient inquiries, bookings and payments so you can perform your job without interruption.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Patient Assessment and Treatment:

- Assess patients’ gait and biomechanics to identify abnormalities and functional impairments
- Diagnose various foot conditions and disorders, such as plantar fasciitis, bunions, ingrown toenails, fungal infections, diabetic foot complications, and structural abnormalities
- Assess and manage acute and chronic wounds, such as ulcers, blisters, and abrasions, particularly in patients with diabetes or peripheral vascular disease
- Develop treatment plans based on assessment findings
- Provide recommendations for conservative treatments, orthotic devices, therapeutic

exercises, and footwear modifications to address foot problems and improve function
- Referral to additional diagnostic testing when necessary

2. Patient Treatment:

- Perform routine foot care procedures, including nail trimming, callus and corn removal, wart treatment, and ingrown toenail management
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ foot health, including medical history review, symptoms and physical examination
- Implement appropriate wound care protocols, including debridement, dressings, offloading

techniques, and infection control measures
- Guide patients on selecting appropriate footwear that offers adequate support, cushioning,

and protection for their foot type and specific needs
- Modifications or adjustments to footwear should be recommended to accommodate orthotic

devices or alleviate pressure points
- Assess, scan, and dispense custom orthotic devices to correct foot deformities, alleviate pain,

and improve overall foot function

3. Collaboration:

- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals in the clinic to ensure integrated client care, including cross-referrals with other practitioners
- Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions and contribute insights to enhance patient outcomes

4. Patient Education:

- Educate clients on the importance of foot health maintenance, self-care strategies, and

lifestyle modifications to prevent future foot problems
- Counsel patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis, or peripheral neuropathy, on the importance of foot monitoring, risk education, and early intervention
- Provide education to patients on proper foot hygiene practices and preventative measures to

reduce the risk of foot-related complications
- Foster a supportive and empowering environment for clients
- Educate and highlight other services and providers and cross-refer as needed

5. Continuing Education:

- Stay abreast of current developments and advancements in podiatric medicine through

ongoing professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and

continuing education courses

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Certification/Registration:

- Must possess a valid certification or license as a Chiropodist with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario (COCOO)

2. Educational Background:

- Completion of an accredited program in Chiropody from a recognized and approved

institution set forth by COCOO
- Must have hands-on practical experience in diagnosing and treating various foot conditions.

3. Ethical Conduct:

- Adherence to the highest ethical standards in patient care, including maintaining patient confidentiality, respecting cultural beliefs and practices, and obtaining informed consent prior to treatment.

4. Regulatory Compliance:

- Knowledge of and compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards governing the practice of Chiropody, including the standards of practice set forth by the COCOO and requirement to carry professional liability insurance

5. Collaborative Team Player:

- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and follow-up recommendations
