**The Branch**
The Policy and Modernization Branch is responsible for developing strategic policies and programs to support the government's modernization of Ontario's long-term care sector.

**The Unit**
The Policy Unit is responsible for the design, development and evaluation of strategic policy initiatives and innovative programs to ensure that Ontarians receive access to the quality long-term care they deserve when and where they need it. The unit analyses emerging issues and trends identifies leading practices and translates them into the programs and policies for the long-term care sector, in collaboration with partners.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will:

- Provide project leadership, team building and oversight on key files
- Lead policy/program analysis options, provide strategic advice, identify issues, trends and provide recommendations
- Develop a variety of materials to communicate project progress, analyze issues, and provide proposed solutions
- Maintain a heightened awareness and tracking of emerging policy issues by conducting environmental scans and trend analyses
- Develop presentations, placemats, and visuals that tell a compelling story
- Provide leadership to projects and small teams
- Liaise and negotiate with internal and external partners
- Lead the development and preparation of briefing notes, and provide input on communications materials
- Identify and develop working relationships with key stakeholders and represent the ministry on consultations, negotiations and working groups
- Deliver briefings, presentations and lead communication strategies

**How do I qualify?**:
**Strategic Leadership and Project Management Skills**:

- You have leadership skills to provide technical direction and guidance to staff, and to lead working groups on project operations.
- You have strategic planning skills to anticipate and absorb complex, large scale issues, and to recognize the interdependencies of policy implementation.
- You have leadership skills to provide strategic health care system policy expertise and gain support for ministry policy and program initiatives.
- You have project management skills and ability to produce high quality results on time through team-based approaches.

**Communication and Relationship Management Skills**:

- You have oral and written communication skills to provide strategic advisory services to executive management, prepare issue notes, positions papers, reports and draft legislation, using standard computer software.
- You have advisory and consultation skills to lead work groups and discuss and resolve diverse and competing policy and program related issues.
- You have partnership, influencing, and consensus building skills to development linkages and consultation frameworks with stakeholders.
- You have presentation skills to explain project progress, explain complex concepts, and support decision making.

**Analytical and Issues Management Skills**:

- You have analytical and strategic management skills to research, analyze and formulate policy.
- You have prioritization skills to identify and manage a number of concurrent issues.
- You have research skills to investigate and assess key issues to be addressed.
- You can evaluate direction, trends and standards to identify and develop options and recommendations.
- You can identify emerging issues and their political implications to mitigate or resolve issues.

**Long-Term Care and Policy Knowledge**:

- You understand program/policy analysis and development theories, principles, and practices.
- You have knowledge of Ontario's long-term care systems, objectives, mandate, relevant legislation/regulations, emerging trends, and challenges.
