The Managing Editor is responsible for the editorial team and content on all the Newswatch websites as well as implementing and reporting all the objectives, results and plans that are developed through the annual planning process and will include goals, policy adherence and editorial development related to the Newswatch web portals and digital services.

**Position Specifics**:

- Manages all day-to-day operations for all Newswatch websites
- Ensure that editorial content is in compliance with journalistic ethics and integrity in conjunction with the Director of News
- Regular reporting to Director of News and Newswatch Publisher
- Responsible for managing the editorial staff to the company-wide & department-specific policies, processes and programs and their individual objectives
- Responsible for executing department-specific policies, processes and programs as per the annual and strategic planning process
- Remain up to date with the evolving best practices for digital publishing
- Optimize digital content management system for audience engagement, including search engine optimization, multi-media assets, and utilizing new functions and features
- Manage social media platforms to promote brand and increase exposure
- Work with the with the Director of News as part of the News supervisory team for (1) news compliance related goals and objectives, (2) shared news content, and (3) coordination of the management of shared news resources, staff and freelancers
- Coordinating with other DougallMedia news departments for shared content
- Continue to learn and develop skills as Managing Editor
- Coordinate with account executives, editorial staff, and advertisers for sponsored content creation and fulfilling commitments
- Managing relationships with Village Media Editorial and other external stakeholders
- Extra duties as required, especially those that support the organization’s stated goals and objectives and leverages experience in digital

**Required Credentials & Skills**:

- BSc/BA in Journalism or at least two years’ experience in a similar role
- Exceptional ability in copy-writing and editing skills
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, planning, time management and coordinating skills
- Proficiency in Canadian Press Style Guide
- Proficiency with CMS’s Google Analytics, Microsoft Office, Outlook, YouTube and social media
- Experience with Photoshop, Editing software and basic HTML knowledge
- Valid Ontario Drivers License
