**How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team**:
Reporting to the Research Analyst and under the direction of the Senior Research Scientist, the Crew Leader position is responsible for leading and carrying out daily tree and forest inventory field work activities with their field assistant, and safely operating and maintaining equipment. The Crew Leader plans daily and weekly schedules for their team and provides technical expertise and leadership in the field.

Overall, this position will play an integral role in the implementation of the tree inventory project occurring in the Region of Peel. This position is responsible for ensuring that data is collected efficiently, safely, and effectively. The crew leader is responsible for recording data accurately, managing time and resources efficiently, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safety in the field. The crew leader will be in constant communication with their Field Assistant and regularly communicate with the Research Analyst to ensure adherence to project objectives, protocols, and timelines, and address problems as they arise. The crew leader must also ensure compliance with relevant corporate and municipal procedures and by-laws, and provincial and federal legislation.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Ensure that all equipment and materials such as GPS units, data collection devices, field maps are present at site visits.
- Plan daily and weekly site visitation schedule and navigate efficiently to sites, coordinating access with site managers as needed.
- Lead and carry out data collection on trees (species, DBH, condition, etc.), and/or forest patches and and invasive species and pests.
- Ensure that data collection is carried out efficiently and according to protocol.
- Compile, maintain, and manage field data and other project data in a timely and accurate manner.
- Communicate with property managers and provide project information to the public.
- Maintain good communication with the Field Assistant and the Research Analyst at all times.
- Inspect, operate, and maintain equipment safely.
- Respond to public inquiries while in the field.
- Participate in or execute daily project logistics such as dropping off and picking up equipment and purchasing supplies as required.
- Ensure health and safety measures are carried out. Lead daily safety tailgate meetings.
- Adapt to site condition changes (weather, unexpected scenarios, equipment issues, design issues).
- Other duties as required.

**What will you need to succeed**:

- Post-secondary education in forestry, biology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license in good standing.
- Minimum of one full field season of experience in forest mensuration and tree identification in the Greater Toronto Area or southern Ontario;
- Excellent ability to identify tree species and common invasive species found in the Greater Toronto Area or southern Ontario;
- Excellent time management and organizational skills;
- Ability to publicly represent Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and our partners in a professional manner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member;
- Good physical fitness and demonstrated aptitude to work outdoors in adverse conditions.
- Effective problem-solving skills and leadership skills.
- Computer proficiency with software experience (e.g. MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Google Earth, Survery123, and/or ArcCollector).
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act an asset.
- First Aid certificate an asset.
