Turning Point Youth Services is a multi-faceted and dynamic Agency committed to responding pro-actively and individually to the life challenges facing each of our clients. We are actively seeking qualified and dedicated individuals to join our Clinical and Counselling team. We are hiring for a Counsellor to join our Youth Justice (YJ) Mental Health Access program. This program provides timely access to mental health assessments, counselling and consultation with psychiatrists and psychologists to those youth involved in the youth criminal justice system.

This is a hybrid role, with the Counsellor splitting their time working from home and from the office and/or community locations.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Promote a culturally safe and therapeutic environment and establish therapeutic relationships with clients consistent with the Agency Mission, Vision and Values.
- Incorporate into your work a trauma-informed, strength-based relationship-based philosophy of care and a belief in the resilience of youth.
- Service is provided at TPYS locations and in the community, including home-based services. Contacts may occur in person, over the phone or video, etc.
- Provide individual and family counselling as indicated while promoting and integrating Youth and Family Engagement.
- Complete criminogenic risk needs assessments and mental health assessments if applicable.
- Promote an environment of inclusion that promotes equity and respects diversity.
- Participation and involvement with multi/inter disciplinary team.
- Service Coordination and Case management.
- Coordinate the access to clinical consultation with psychiatry and psychological services to enhance service delivery.
- Regular recording and maintenance of records as per agency standards and in accordance with privacy policies, legislation and required timeframes.
- Accurate and consistent entry of client activities into client information system
- Participate in ongoing training and supervision sessions on a regular basis.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- 3 years (preferably post-graduate) working in the mental health field, ideally with adolescents.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience providing evidence informed interventions with youth with acute mental health and substance use issues (trauma-informed, attachment-based, narrative, Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural therapies etc.)
- Expertise in individual and family therapy and demonstrated ability to effectively connect with youth, families and the community.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with at risk adolescents and young adults.
- Understanding of the complex issues facing our clients.
- Demonstrated ability to work from and implement a strengths-based relationship-based approach.
- Sensitivity to and ability to work with a diverse client and staff group.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to exercise professionalism and sound judgement in conflictual and crisis situations
- Strong case management, administrative and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of relevant community resources and strong networking skills
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification; completion of required crisis intervention training
- Completion of required suicide prevention and intervention training
- Registration and good standing with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and/or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
- Minimum of 2 doses of a Health Canada approved COVID-19 vaccine series.

This is a collective bargaining unit position within CUPE Local 3501B.
