**Position Title**: Academic Advisor/Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA)

**Location**: 2920 Virtual Way, Vancouver, BC

**Compensation**: $60,000/year with benefits after four (4) months

**Position Responsibilities**:

- Guiding students in course selection and preparing educational plans that are appropriate, realistic and consistent with their educational and career goals.
- Providing students with current, accurate information about programs, courses, and services provided by the College.
- Reviewing student files to prove advice on the potential for university-transfer, graduation status, etc.
- Providing relevant and up to date immigration information as it relates to students’ academic studies at the college.
- Advising international students on matters related to work and study permits to ensure they are making the best-informed decisions.
- Providing information and assisting in developing strategies for struggling students.
- Working cooperatively with college committees, administrators, instructors, and other stakeholders to ensure that the needs of international students are being addressed.
- Contributing to the development of policies and procedures at the College by identifying continuous issues for international students and making recommendations.
- Providing information regarding international student interest and demand for specific programs and courses, upon request from leadership.
- Acting as a resource for the College about international student immigration related issues, upon request from leadership.
- Other advisor-related duties as identified by the incumbent or management.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline.
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in a cross-cultural educational setting.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Certification from Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) as a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) L1 with membership in good standing.
- Strong knowledge of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) policies and procedures.
- General knowledge of other cultures, their history, religions, norms and customs.
- Availability to work both 8:30am-4:00pm or 11:30am-7:00pm shifts, Monday-Friday.

**Skills and Abilities**
- Fluency in Punjabi would be an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English, including cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service skills in a cross-cultural setting.
- Ability to keep up to date with current and emerging immigration legislation, interpretations and best practices within the field of immigration.
- Ability to analyze and integrate immigration legislation along with college policy and procedures.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to effectively work with and provide information, assistance and related services to international students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy and exercise judgment in interactions with international students.
- Strong decision-making and analytical skills, including problem solving and needs analysis.
- Ability to work effectively as part of the international student service team, as well as independently.
