**Basic Function**: Reporting to the Controller, this position is responsible for organization-wide financial planning and analysis, auditing, costing, budget co-ordination and review. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the approved Strategic Plan.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides organization-wide financial planning and analysis, services and consultation in support of the development of Cost Centre Budgets by Cost Centre Managers. Guides individual cost centre managers through the budget process, facilitates budget review meetings with each cost centre and performs a detailed review to identify areas of opportunity and risk in the budget.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements to identify budget variances and forecast year-end results for Management to use for operational decision making (e.g. Weekly Dashboard, Monthly Internal Financial Statements, Monthly Board Summaries).
- Works closely with the City of Toronto’s Financial Planning Division in the City budget process, including capital and operating budget preparation and submission to ensure complete and accurate information is included in all reporting that is submitted to the City as part of the budget approval process.
- Works with the City’s accounting and auditing representatives on designated matters such as year-end reporting, consolidations and data integration with City accounting and budgeting systems, information requests for reporting to council on financial matters, Auditor General’s Office requirements.
- Performs financial analysis including costs - benefit analysis, discounted cash flow and NPV analyses, revenues and future cash flows, data management and develops financial models for use in such analyses.
- Performs cost and variance analysis on operating results and support of accounting staff with month-end and year-end preparation.
- Provides costing of Labour Relations and Collective Agreements.
- Develops, co-ordinates and oversees the internal audit process for the Zoo.
- Co-ordinates inventory and applicable tax audits in conjunction with Finance and Procurement Teams.
- Provides Branch staff with direction regarding accounting standards and guidelines to ensure compliance for both transactional accounting and reporting.
- Acts as the Controller and Procurement Supervisor in the absence of the supervisors.
- Responsible for the audit of Payroll reports and Government remittances.
- Assists Controller in the financial and regulatory compliance of applicable regulations, rules, policies, internal financial control procedures and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Co-ordinates the preparation of the operating and capital budget submissions, oversees budget system administration and liaison with business units.
- Maintains detailed statistical reports and ensures accuracy and timely distribution to Division Heads.
- Assists Controller with high level business initiatives such as governance and financial sustainability planning.
- Assists guests on-site as required and ensures excellent customer service is provided by Zoo staff.
- Other related duties as requested by the Controller.

**Qualifications**:

- Must possess a CPA designation.
- Must possess minimum of three (3) years proven professional experience as a financial analyst; experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of municipal or other government accounting principles and practices, financial and internal controls, financial statement preparation, performance measures, and Public-Sector Accounting Board standards and requirements is essential.
- Must possess superior planning and communication skills, and be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, using the English language.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines in a fast-paced multi-team environment.
- Experience/expertise with cash systems and statistical analysis and reporting.
