**Unit Clerk In-Patient Care**

**Position**:
Reporting to the manager of inpatient surgical care, the Unit Clerk, as a member of and in collaboration with the inter-professional surgical team, contributes to creating a world-class patient experience with every interaction throughout the patient journey based on professionalism, excellence in patient care, and Shouldice Hospital’s commitment to remain the world leader in Hernia surgery.

**Responsibilities**:

- The unit clerk will support the manager with administrative tasks, supporting nursing and patient care team.
- Will support and organize the in-patient surgical units in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team members and various departments within the hospital.
- Directing phone calls and interdepartmental inquiries.
- Process admission and discharges, assign patients to rooms.
- Payroll entries, scheduling, daily staffing, customer service and general patient inquiries.
- Easily adaptable to changes at the organization level as well as the unit level.
- Contributes to positive team environment.
- Responsible for maintaining and coordinating office and clerical procedures in order to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Responsible for ordering, receiving and organizing medical supplies.
- Electronic data entry such as patient’s Incident reports.
- Participate in departmental monthly safety checks.

**Qualifications**:

- Canadian Post-Secondary education
- Medical Administration certificate / diploma or equivalent or have minimum of 1 year current relevant clerical experience in a hospital setting.
- Typing skills, with a minimum of 40 wpm and 90% accuracy (testing will be administered).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Testing will be administered on Excel, Word, publisher).
- Demonstrates accurate filing skills (Will be required to complete and pass the skills assessment).
- Medical terminology (testing will be administered).
- Experience with Order entry and electronic documentation.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of Payroll and scheduling with proficiency with electronic time sheets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates excellent organizational, prioritization and time-management skills.
- Excellent telephone skills, able efficiently and professionally manage multiple telephone lines.
- Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to take appropriate actions in resolving issues and improving the work environment.
- Demonstrates values consistent with Shouldice Hospital Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Shouldice Hospital comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular educational sessions.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
