Halifax, Canada Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts Full time

**Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts**

**Development Officer**

**About the Conservatory**

The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts, a Canadian registered Charitable Organization, is 135 years old this year Since 1887 the Conservatory has been at the centre of music and dance education in

Kjipuktuk/Halifax. Over the years thousands of students have developed a life-long love of the performing arts, many of whom have gone on to professional careers around the world based on the solid foundation acquired at the Conservatory.

Today students of all ages and abilities continue to join our arts family to pursue their goals and follow their dreams in music and dance.

From the youngest baby in our ‘Kindermusik’ program to our ‘Silver Swans’ of ballet to those who benefit from our Music Therapy department, and to those in our outreach program we continue to nurture Nova Scotians in the performing arts in all ages and stages of life.

Beyond the vital opportunities for learning music and dance our Centre for Music Therapy serves those with physical and developmental disabilities, autism, neurodiversity, brain injury etc. Our Music

Therapists work with individuals here at the Conservatory, and with groups in care homes, retirement homes and hospitals across Halifax.

Our music and dance faculties of a combined 83 experienced professionals each stand for excellence in their field. They are dedicated educators who love to instill the perspective and language of music and dance, enriching lives and creating expressive career opportunities. Together with our 13 (and growing) music therapists we are able to meet the needs of students and participants like no-where else in the

Maritimes.

Our heritage building was built in 1910 as the Chebucto Road School. This historic building —today a wonderful example of re-use—served as a triage and medical centre and as a mortuary in the aftermath of the Halifax explosion in 1917. The building with its large studios, grand staircases, and remarkable

Concert Hall is a well-known part of the cultural fabric of Halifax.

**The Opportunity**

Today, with a motivated board, committed staff, and a strategic plan designed to build the foundations on which to grow we are ready to begin a new bright chapter for the Conservatory.

The large potential for fundraising and development among our alumni, parents, faculty, friends, and others in the broader community who support the performing arts has never been realized.

We are poised to actively engage and inspire our natural support base—you will have the opportunity to shape, from the ground up, the Conservatory’s annual campaign. This will become the building blocks for a future capital campaign to restore and update our heritage building.

You have learned how rewarding fundraising can be and are looking for an opportunity to truly shine and show off your best work. Working closely with the director you will support the development, implementation, and administration of our fundraising program. You’re well organized and focused and you will be a steadfast partner capable of working autonomously while being a great team member keeping staff, faculty, and volunteers informed and engaged.

You understand the importance of ensuring that the performing arts flourishes in Halifax. You understand the benefits and joy of living a musical life. You are adept at being able to communicate why these are important. You care about making a difference.
