**JOB OVERVIEW**

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes provides children and youth affected by cancer and their families with an unforgettable overnight summer camp experience in a medically supervised, safe and supportive environment. We have been committed to providing a camping experience for children affected by cancer since 1985.

The Canadian Cancer Society believes that time spent at camp allows kids to just be kids, away from their diagnosis. Camp Goodtimes is proud to provide programming that gives joy, confidence, support, and hope for children with cancer and their families.

Under the Camp Goodtimes program umbrella, the Program Specialist is responsible for developing, designing, and implementing programs for children and families impacted by childhood cancer. This position will design and oversee engaging and inclusive programs for participants of all ages and ability (cognitive and physical) levels at Camp Goodtimes in the summer, and for families during year-round events.

This position is a member of the leadership team at camp and report directly to the Camp Manager. They work as a team to build a positive camp culture and ensure the safety and overall well-being of camp participants. During the summer, this position lives on-site at camp and has 6-8 seasonal program facilitator direct reports.

**WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**:

- Develop interactive programming for the children and youth with cancer, and their families. Ensure that program designs are inclusive of our diverse population and flexible to meet their needs. Develop and design program manuals and guidelines to support effective program delivery.
- Become familiar with and implement existing CCS Camps policies and procedures within programs that are developed and implemented.
- Develop different program schedules for each CGT Child and Family Program (FABs, Bereaved Retreat, Summer Camps,, etc).
- Work alongside the Clinical Coordinator to design programming that is inclusive, supportive and appropriate for the participant demographic.
- Work with Camper Experience Coordinator to understand any adaptions that may be necessary for making our programs inclusive and flexible (based on socio-emotional support, physical or cognitive ability, etc)
- Work alongside the Youth and Young Adult Specialist to support the program needs of Teen Camp, Leadership In Training and the Exploration Project programs as needed
- Oversee programming execution at camp, ensuring the design of all Waterfront, Land, and Partner Groups (Pinnacle) programming can be implemented efficiently. Provide direction and coaching to the Program Staff Team.
- Lead and work alongside the Program Staff Team to develop activities that are skill-based and align with the guiding principles of Camp Goodtimes programming.
- Work with the Program Staff Team to ensure documentation of activities including description, instructions and necessary supplies are in the Program Activities Manual.
- Collaborate with and learn from other oncology programs to ensure Camp Goodtimes programs are based on best practice
- Ensure program areas adhere to CCS Policies, Canadian Camping Policies and Children Oncology Camping Association Policies
- Ensure all adaptation equipment is documented and put forward to (Danielle)
- Develop the Program Activities budget in close consultation with(Danielle).Monitor expenditure and reports budget variance to (Danielle).
- Facilitate training sessions for Camp Goodtimes volunteers and assist with leadership training of other summer staff.
- Work with Camp Manager in recruiting the Waterfront Supervisor and all Land and Water Program Leaders
- Work with the Camp Manager to oversee and train the Program Leaders that consists of 6-8 seasonal staff
- Accountable for providing mentorship and carrying out performance reviews for the program leaders.
- Participates in both formal and informal recognition programs for staff and volunteers.
- Lead the program activities. Be responsible for specific site set-up and clean up for each summer sessions.
