In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Description Summary

As a member of the DAE Project Management team, the Business Analyst role supports the Alumni UBC and DAE Portfolio by assessing business needs in an effort to align key initiatives with information technology solutions and managing complex projects to implement business-process improvements, custom solutions, custom integrations and/or system upgrades. The role will liaise with key stakeholders across the portfolio to carry out a variety of analysis tasks, including: business process review, gap analysis, and overall process-requirements. The incumbent will work to align business drivers with technology solutions, recommend process improvements, and define how recommended solutions fulfill business needs. The position will also play a key role in managing and delivering a variety of projects across DAE (Alumni UBC and Development functions) and UBC technical systems, identifying project milestones, tracking progress, identifying risks and issues, reporting to key stakeholders, training staff and resources on usage of new or significantly changed system functionality, and communicating across involved business partners.

Organizational Status

The Business Analyst position reports to the Associate Director, Program Management and will work closely with both Alumni UBC and Development teams across DAE. As such, the role will consult closely with business stakeholders to capture requirements, analyze fits and gaps with current and proposed systems, manage delivery of projects and provide training, as required.

Work Performed

The work performed by the role will include:
Business Analysis:

- Consults with IT and Business representatives to elicit key requirements, business needs and process workflow
- Clearly identifies, articulates and documents business requirements and functional needs
- Identifies business systems, workflow efficiencies and ways to improve and/or simplify processes
- Analyzes design options, identifies opportunities for improvements, and develops user-acceptance scripts or schedules for testing
- Creates functional specifications documentation and works with IT and Business representatives to ensure proposed solution meets business and technical requirements
- Helps define metrics related to process or technical changes to benchmark benefits being proposed

Project Management:

- Works as an integral part of project teams to develop project scope and objectives, involving key stakeholders and ensuring that business goals can be met
- Develops a detailed project plan to guide a project implementation
- Identifies and tracks risks that arise in a project
- Reports on project progress and escalates any issues or risks to key stakeholders and IT

Leadership
- Manages relationships among all involved DAE and third-party resources involved in the project
- Creates and maintains high-quality project documentation

Training:

- Identifies gaps in training and awareness in project teams, or risks related to training as related to rollout of projects
- Develops training materials or user guides and provides support to end users when implementing new reports, system functionality or features
- Creates training plans for business and technical users as part of project delivery
- Updates select training guides, web pages and other materials, as necessary
- Performs training for business users and stakeholders, or train-the-trainer style courses when and as required to ensure smooth handover of solutions to the business

Testing:

- Identifies impacted areas of systems, tools or processes via analysis of project requirements
- Creates testing plans when and as needed to ensure new requirements, process changes, or new tools or technology create mínimal impact on business continuity
- Reports on testing results to key business stakeholders, as well as IT Leadership and other team members as required
- Develops and coordinates testing resources across the portfolio and throughout the IT team to help with smooth delivery of projects.
