Course Description:
Marketing research is studied from the perspective of the marketing manager. The course focuses on the initiation, design, and interpretation of research as an aid to marketing decision making. The objective of this course is to combine hands-on experience conducting marketing research with the ability to determine the type of research that needs to be undertaken to solve different business problems. Students will learn various marketing research methods and tools, (e.g., qualitative vs quantitative research, designing a survey questionnaire, moderating a focus group, data collection methods and sampling plans, data analysis, and secondary research, etc), and their strengths and limitations in solving business situations involving marketing research. In addition, students will learn the importance of designing a market research study which yields relevant, timely, applicable, and accurate information in a way that is ethical, professional, and builds shareholder value for the enterprise. At the successful completion of the course, students will gain the ability of how principles learned in this class could be applied in real business situations.
Instructor qualification: the instructor should have (i) prior experience in teaching marketing research in an undergraduate program in a reputed university of similar stature as University of Toronto, (ii) good course evaluations for the courses they have taught so far. (iii) All else being the same, we would prefer an instructor who has prior experience teaching the commerce students at University of Toronto
