We are community planners that work together with engineers, technologists and landscape architects to design neighbourhoods and deliver infrastructure, minimizing environmental impact and maximizing benefit to the community.
ISL’s Community Planning Team brings decades of experience in both urban and rural communities - providing planning policy and land development leadership across Western Canada with the support of a full-service engineering firm. Our team is based on:

A Little About You
**Your cover letter must**:
- Demonstrate general knowledge of planning and development issues in a municipal context, and
- Share a project you supported where there was a large planning impact to a community
**Your resume should show us**:
- An Accredited Undergraduate Planning Degree or a related field such as Urban Studies, Human Geography or Public Policy
- Up to five (5) years’ experience in the planning profession
- Demonstrated experience writing policy and advising community with knowledge of the policy lifecycle
- Critical thinking skills and an understanding of the provincial planning context in Alberta or Western Canada
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with a high attention to detail
**Bonus points for**:
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and/or Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop)
- Experience with public engagement processes and strategies (IAP2 an asset)
A Little More About the Role
- Work as a part of a multidisciplinary multi-office team to deliver planning projects across Western Canada,
- Prepare and facilitate the approvals of policy planning projects including Municipal Development Plans/Official Community Plans, Intermunicipal Development Plans, Area Structure/Redevelopment Plans, Land Use Bylaws/Zoning Bylaws and related work.
- Provide planning advisory services to municipalities including planning advice, development reviews and grant writing support.
- Present project deliverables to local government Councils, Boards, committees, the public and other affected parties.
- Conduct research and policy analysis with clearly communicated results both verbally and in writing for your project work and in support of senior planning leads.
- Participate in networking opportunities with professional associations, government agencies and industry.
- Support the preparation of proposals for community planning projects and providing general support for our business development or marketing initiatives.
- Travel to client municipalities to support project deliverables, engage with the public and learn about the community.
- Be an active participant in client meetings to build and foster client relationships
- Other related duties as assigned.

Depending on your experience level, the salary range for this position (based on a 40-hour work week) is:
- $60,000 - $90,000
