Job Summary

The Undergraduate Student Development Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that support personal and professional development, build career-readiness skills, and contribute to a culture of leadership for students in the Faculty of Applied Science. The Undergraduate Student Development Coordinator is instrumental in the delivery of programs and services designed to support a culture of student learning and development in the Faculty of Applied Science.

The Undergraduate Student Development Coordinator delivers programs and services in support of undergraduate student learning, leadership and career development, orientation and transition, and mentorship in Applied Science. The Undergraduate Student Development Coordinator works with students, staff, faculty, alumni, student government (EUS/AMS), faculty departments, and other student service areas in pursuit of these goals.

The Undergraduate Student Development Coordinator is expected to work in strong collaboration across the Faculty, to both lead and support student staff and volunteers, and to work independently to complete assigned duties.

Organizational Status

The Coordinator reports directly to the Manager, Experiential Learning & Professional Development. The coordinator also works in collaboration with the Director, Experiential Learning and Academic Services and the Senior Manager, Business Development and Employer Engagement. Collaboration with colleagues in the Vice-President Students Office (Centre for Student Involvement and Careers) is necessary for university-wide activities, such as orientations and transition programming. Collaboration with the Professional Development Officer at the UBC Engineering Okanagan campus for cross-campus programs or initiatives (e.g., the Engineering Mentoring Program) will also be expected.

Work Performed

1. Orientation and Transition Programming - Planning, Coordination, and Implementation

Under the strategic vision and guidance of the Director, Experiential Learning and Academic Services, coordinate all aspects of the Engineering’s Orientation and Transition programming, including:

- advertising and marketing programs, recruiting, hiring, and training student leaders, identifying system requirements and managing logístical planning, developing action plans to achieve program targets and outcomes, tracking and evaluating program success, and assessing student leader learning.

2. Engineering Mentoring Program - Planning, Coordination, and Implementation

Under the strategic vision and guidance of the Senior Manager, Business Development and Employer Engagement, coordinate all aspects of Engineering Mentoring Programs such as:

- advertising and marketing programs, recruiting, hiring, and training student leaders, identifying system requirements and managing logístical planning, developing action plans to achieve program targets and outcomes, tracking and evaluating program success, and assessing student leader learning.

3. Student Development Program Coordination

Under strategic vision and guidance of the Manager, Experiential Learning & Professional Development, assist in all aspects of the development, implementation, and delivery of student development activities designed to enhance the Applied Science undergraduate student experience, such as:

- Coordinate and implement existing large-scale student development programs, services, and events designed to bridge students curricular and co-curricular experiences.
- Assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating leadership training for student leaders focusing on encouraging students to develop leadership goals and skills
- Supporting current and emerging student leaders, identifying and removing obstacles to student development, and supporting student leaders in developing sustainable student development programs
