Toronto, Canada Long Term Care Home Full time

**Experience/Qualifications**:

- Prior knowledge and experience of environmental service operations and equipment in Long Term Care Setting preferred.
- 1-2 years experience and/or knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry and heating and ventilation systems. Technical training in building maintenance is **preferred.**:

- Ability to read and interpret manuals related to equipment and systems.
- Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English and understand moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to organize work and prioritize effectively with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to operate related equipment.

**Position Summary**: Reporting to the Environmental Service Manager, the Maintenance Person performs general, routine maintenance and servicing operations throughout the site, reports unsafe conditions/situations in accordance with applicable codes and regulations and as directed.

**Tasks **_not limited to_
- Performs a variety of routine maintenance, servicing and repair operations to maintain facility, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds in proper condition.
- Monitors ongoing maintenance requirements and carries out repairs as required. Documents and implements the preventative maintenance programs. Maintains adequate inventory of tools and spare parts.
- Performs mechanical maintenance and repairs to equipment such as lubricating motors and hinges, repairs to kitchen and laundry equipment, repairs to beds, chairs, tables etc.
- Performs general maintenance and repairs to plumbing and electrical systems such as replacing water valves, clearing drains and removing stoppages, repairing or replacing fixtures, replacing switches, replacing fuses and light bulbs
- Performs general carpentry work and repairs such as installing floor and wall tiles, repairing drywall, replacing doors and door hardware, repairing roof leaks, painting, installing wallpaper and other redecorating tasks.
- provides general assistance to skilled trade persons such as mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, etc. as required.
- Adhere to company policies, safety regulations and OSHA requirements.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created
- Assist with special projects seasonally such as: set out and clean outdoor furniture, power washing, snow removal and de-icing and etc.
- Ad-hoc cleaning of building floors by sweeping, mopping, buffing, scrubbing, or vacuuming; gather and empty trash; service, clean and supply restrooms.
- Maintenance workers will be on-call to respond to building emergencies.

**Physical Fitness Requirements**:
Extended periods of time at work standing, rapid movement, lifting, operating medium weight cleaning equipment such as commercial grade buffing machine, sweeping and mopping floors etc. Manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance are required. Must be able to comfortably bend, stoop, lift, twist and turn, climb stairs etc. Ability to perform constant repetitious arm and wrist movements.

**Environmental Conditions**: More indoor, some outdoor work. Possible exposure to distraction/ uncomfortable noise levels. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. Contact with potentially dangerous and toxic cleaning products with unpleasant odors. May be required to clean up bodily fluids.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $24.37 per hour

Expected hours: 27.5 per week
