The Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Trade is responsible for leading efforts to grow Alberta’s economy by supporting Alberta’s entrepreneurs and employers, promoting trade and investment, helping recruit and retain workers, and promoting safe, fair and healthy workplaces by:

**Role Responsibilities**:

- The Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Development Unit leads the assessment and development of policy improvements to the Film and Television Tax Credit (FTTC), and advances specific policy initiatives to support entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Alberta. The unit is also responsible for the development and presentation of models, strategies, and policies that aim to strengthen business support ecosystem in the province.
- Working closely with team members, including the Managers and Directors in the branch, the Policy Advisor leads and supports projects and prepares strategic internal and external communications. This requires extensive problem-solving, systems thinking, decision-making, relationship development and business communication skills. The Policy Advisor's technical, analytical and communication skills are essential to both the unit and the branch achieving their business plan goals in fostering solutions to address barriers that enterprises and entrepreneurs face, and promoting economic growth in Alberta.
- The Policy Advisor will be required to lead and support various research projects with competing priorities. The Policy Advisor is responsible for:
- Performing jurisdictional, market, economic, and statistical research and analysis.
- Providing strategic and policy advice related to reducing barriers for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
- Improving retention and strengthen the business support ecosystem in the province.
- Coordinating engagement with technical contacts within the department, across ministries, and with key stakeholders for the purpose of developing policy responses on relevant issues.
- Providing policy advice to program areas within the department responsible for supporting entrepreneurs, enterprises, and business support activities.

**Requirements**:
University graduation Business, Public Administration, Political Science or in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
- Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

**Assets**:

- Strong research planning and execution skills.
- Project management and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple requests, competing priorities and to meet tight timelines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Possess demonstrated strong abilities to develop and prepare clear options analysis and briefings. Experience writing reports and/or executive briefing notes is considered an asset.
- Ability to function well in a team-based environment that demands a high level of interpersonal skills.
- Ability to complete tasks independently.
- Knowledge of the Alberta economy, its place in the Canadian, North American and global economies, and the economies of other provinces. Ability to foster positive stakeholder relations with internal and external clients; able to request and evaluate information, collaborate with staff in the department and partner ministries, and problem solve when information is not supplied.
