**MANAGER, Research and Development**

**JOB PURPOSE**:
Manage the development, implementation and evaluation of process research projects according to client specifications.

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Contribute to the evaluation of new inquiries (i.e. R+D cost and resource estimates)
- Develops process research project plans in collaboration with other departments
- Collaborate with R+D Managers in allocating project resources (lab space, equipment and staff)
- Co-ordinate multi-functional project teams and facilitate the resolution of outstanding issues
- Monitor project progress through tools such as regular status meetings, schedule reviews, Gantt Charts
- Lead in the management of staff through activities such as recruitment, performance management and staff development
- Fulfil point of contact role for clients on scientific matters related to projects
- Manage and review final project reports
- Participate in project evaluations through report review, analysis and coaching
- Monitor compliance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and R+D Manuals
- Ensure safe and clean lab operations
- Act as designate of other Research and Development Managers in his/her absence or as required.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**:
EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ATTAINMENT
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, preferably in synthetic organic chemistry

JOB RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Post graduate industrial or academic experience in synthetic organic chemistry. Leadership and project management experience at a pharmaceutical and/or fine chemical company is an asset

- Knowledge and skills with production capabilities in a pilot plant and kilo lab environments operating under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)

**ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE**:

- Manager, Research and Development reports to Senior Manager, Research and Development
- Manager, Research and Development has direct reports (R+D Chemists, Research Leader, Fellow, Senior and Principal Chemists)
- Designated Alternate: Other Research and Development Managers

**Salary**: $100,000.00-$150,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- 12 hour shift
- 8 hour shift

Supplemental pay types:

**Education**:

- Doctoral Degree (preferred)

**Experience**:
