Position Overview:- Downtown Kitchener is the heart of our community - a growing urban centre with a diverse and passionate community, that is undergoing one of the most dynamic transformations in Canada. It is a community of business owners, entrepreneurs, arts and culture venues, cultural organizations, community organizations, event organizers, educational institutions and more. Businesses of all types, from new to long standing, from independent to international, from food to retail to hospitality, make DTK a vibrant and diverse community.Reporting to the Executive Director of Economic Development, you will guide the work of the Downtown team and work collaboratively with the broader Economic Development team to advance Make It Kitchener 2.0, the City’s economic development strategy. You will work in partnership with the Downtown Kitchener Business Improvement Association and support key community collaborators including business owners, neighbourhood associations, post-secondary institutions, prospective businesses, etc..***
- Responsibilities:
**Strategy & Action**
- Provide overall leadership to develop and deliver on an ambitious vision for Downtown Kitchener - _“The heart of the City that excites, supports and unites”._
- Manage and support actions that advance three guiding principles - Radiating Vibrancy, Cultivating Connection and Belonging.
- Liaise with staff across the organization, downtown partners, the business community, the Downtown BIA and the general public on the development of strategies and implementation of actions to continue to advance the Downtown as a vibrant heart of the community.

**Development & Business Attraction**
- Support the attraction, planning and development of businesses and major downtown redevelopment projects. This can include attracting new developers, supporting major office companies in locating space, supporting the development of Master Plans (ex: Bramm Yards), and supporting the sale of strategic City lands.

Downtown Vibrancy & Experience _**
- Working with a dedicated staff team and City stakeholders, actively build a sense of community and belonging among Downtown partners, stakeholders and residents.
- Support collaborative responses to emerging issues.
- Champion a vibrant Downtown experience, including overseeing the delivery of weekly programming (ex: live music) and events.
- Oversee the Gaukel Block - a new community-focused event space that hosts dozens of markets and events each year.
- Support the Downtown Operations team in ensure a clean and positive pedestrian experience.

Brand & Marketing_**
- Working with the Downtown Kitchener Business Improvement Association, help champion the brand of Downtown Kitchener to maximize community-wide impact and audience development.
- Support the implementation of marketing strategies for Downtown.
- Provide leadership and support to other Economic Development units on audience development.

Innovation_**
- Develop programs and initiatives which advance innovation within the downtown business, retail and startup communities. This could include, for example, advancing the ‘Sq Peg’ pop-up retail space and program.

**_Collaboration_**
- As a leader within the organization and community, support collaboration amongst economic development units, various stakeholders (internally and externally), while championing and providing leadership on a variety of strategic issues and areas of focus.

Team Leadership _**
- Lead a team of passionate staff, including 2 full-time staff (Downtown Development Assistant and Downtown Marketing & Program Coordinator) and numerous seasonal staff, supporting their professional growth and development, while creating a positive and inspiring work environment.

**Requirements**:
- 3 year degree or diploma in a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years' of related experience, including extensive business experience dealing with a range of companies (retail, restaurant, technology, office, etc.)
- Experience developing and implementing programs that support small business growth and innovation.
- Experience leading a diverse team
- Working knowledge of land use development and management, business and community facilitation,
