**Role**:
The Government of Alberta, within the Transportation and Economic Corridors Ministry is currently looking for a Pavement Design Specialist to join their office in Edmonton. If you are looking for a challenging yet exciting opportunity, look no further and apply

Reporting to the Director, Pavement Engineering, the Pavement Design Specialist takes a lead role in the development, monitoring and updating of pavement design, rehabilitation, and preservation standards, guidelines, manuals, procedures and specifications for the Department.

This Pavement Design specialist is responsible for the oversight of all pavement rehabilitation strategies for the provincial highway rehabilitation program and provides guidance and direction to consultants and regional staff in producing cost-effective and constructible designs. This position also provides expert technical advice that support pavement management processes, and that support the permit office such as the impact of super loads, non-standard axle loads, etc., on pavement performance.

The main responsibilities of the Pavement Design Specialist are (but not limited to):

- Develop, maintain, and update flexible and rigid pavement design, rehabilitation, and preservation standards, guidelines, manuals, procedures, and specifications for the Department
- Monitor and ensure that design standards are adhered to
- Provide expert technical advice related to pavements
- Keep abreast of innovations and advancements in the areas of pavement maintenance, preservation, rehabilitation, and design with a view to incorporation into Department practices as appropriate.
- Supervise and mentor staff within the Pavement Design Unit

**Qualifications**:
Required:

- University Degree in Engineering or related field supplemented by 10 years of progressively responsible experience in pavement design, rehabilitation, and preservation
- Master’s Degree in Pavement Design considered a asset
- Application/use of AASHTO 1993 pavement design methodology, life cycle cost analysis, AASHTOWare Pavement-ME Design, FWD data analysis, and pavement field inspections.
- Eligible for registration as professional engineer with APEGA
- Class 5 Driver’s Licence

Desired:

- Experience with Alberta Transportation standards and guidelines for pavement design, rehabilitation, and preservation.
- Pavement finite element modeling experience
- Experience supervising a small, technical team
- Strong project management and organization skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, including experience with technical report writing.
