New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. **Position Reports To**: Environment, Lands and Permitting Manager

Position Overview

This position will play a critical role for both New Afton and New Gold as a whole, in support of operational execution and advancement of strategic opportunities in effort to extend mine life. Understanding, assessing, and developing creative environmental risk management solutions will be core aspects of this role to effectively engage Indigenous and Regulatory officials for authorization of responsible critical mineral extraction.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the New Gold Exploration team to assess ESG components and facilitate Mx permitting for regional and provincial opportunities.
Assess and understand regulatory processes, develop rapport and working relationships with regulatory bodies.
Foster transparent and trusting relationships with Indigenous Nations and stakeholders.
Support and/or lead engagement activities with Indigenous Nations, stakeholders, and regulators.
Remain current with political advancements, participate in professional associations and/or regulatory feedback activities to support a responsible critical mineral strategy.

**Qualifications**:
A degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience.
Robust foundational understanding of environmental quality data and ability to interpret technical reports to effectively articulate associated environmental risks and mitigations to a variety of stakeholders.
Experience with GIS or mapping software to facilitate communication of spatial project aspects.
Ability to compartmentalize and manage competing priorities.
Experience with Indigenous engagement.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Project management skills are considered an asset.
Understanding of heavy industry operational and environmental risk management.
Preference may be given to those registered with a professional organization (e.g. P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., RP.Bio) or eligible to become registered.

Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
