We are looking for an Aircraft Crew Chief to support our Aerospace Research Centre. The Aircraft Crew Chief would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The NRC Flight Research Laboratory (FRL) operates a small fleet of highly specialized research aircraft to meet the flight research needs of partners and clients in the Canadian aerospace sector. Engineering modifications to these aircraft are performed in-house, by highly qualified teams of designers, engineers and fabrication specialists. Maintenance is carried out by licensed aircraft mechanics and research projects are flown by qualified test pilots and supporting crew members.

Working for the NRC Aerospace Research Centre (NRC-AERO), and reporting to the Manager, Aircraft Maintenance the incumbent will be part of a team of six Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) who perform and ensure proper completion of applicable maintenance and installation activities on the NRC research aircraft. The Aircraft Crew Chief will be expected to:

- Plan and coordinate with project managers and aircrew, the maintenance scheduling for their respective aircraft, both short and long term;
- Plan parts requirements and initiate procurement of those parts;
- Inspect and maintain their assigned aircraft;
- Supervise other AME’s and technicians when working under their direction;
- Certify their work and the work of non-Aircraft Certifying Authority (ACA) holders in their direct supervision;
- Coordinate project installations with project technicians, managers and clients;
- Monitor activities of project personnel when they are carrying out project installations, modifications, or project maintenance on the aircraft;
- Inspect project installations for drawing conformity and safety compliance;
- Plan and coordinate logístical support for aircraft deployed on field trips;
- Liaise with manufacturer and supplier technical representatives for matters affecting their aircraft;
- Be responsible for the making of record and logbook entries for their aircraft;
- Work with and or monitor the activities of maintenance contractors.

The incumbent will also carry out duties in accordance with the FRL Maintenance Policy and Procedures Manuals (MPM) under Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) #6-64, in conformance and in compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).

On occasion, the Aircraft Crew Chief will accompany FRL aircraft on field deployments supporting airborne research projects ranging from measuring biological, geological and geophysical phenomena, space research, autonomous flight and aviation icing hazards often in collaboration with other government departments and universities.

**Screening Criteria**:
**Education**:
Graduation from a program of study at an accredited college approved by Transport Canada in accordance with Division II of Subpart 403 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations for Aircraft Maintenance Engineer training or equivalent.

Must hold an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) “M” licence issued by Transport Canada.

Bell 412, 205, 206 Transport Canada approved Type Course.

**Experience**:

- Significant experience as a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) in an organization that conducts heavy maintenance and/or extensive major modifications to civil or military aircraft;
- Significant experience as a licensed AME in an organization that conducts flight operations;
- Significant experience performing aircraft maintenance including experience on Bell helicopters; and
- Basic experience as an aircraft Crew Chief managing multiple concurrent aircraft maintenance and/or modification projects on assigned aircrafts in an environment of frequently changing priorities.

**Assets**:

- Experience in a military or civil flight test environment;
- Experience performing maintenance on aircrafts similar to those operated by FRL. (Note: current fleet includes Convair 580, Dassault Falcon 20, Twin Otter, Canadair CT-133 (T-33), Harvard Mk IV, Cessna 337,Bell 205, Bell 206, Bell 412).

**Condition of Employment**:

- Secret (II). A Secret clearance must be obtained within 12 months of employment; and
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) from the Ottawa Airport Pass Control Office.
