**Your role**

CBC Toronto’s Enterprise Unit is responsible for delivering highly original enterprise and investigative content to all platforms. While allied closely with Toronto news programs, the team can also support the daily news team with research and context on major breaking stories.

You are a seasoned journalist with demonstrated experience at finding and telling enterprise and investigative stories. You bring an ability to understand and distill complex information through creative story-telling. You have the curiosity, energy and commitment needed to see an investigative story through its research stages. You have an advanced understanding of legal requirements in journalism, in addition to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.

You have extensive experience filing FOI and ATIP requests and accessing information through various public financial and legal databases. You also have an extensive stable of sources to provide you with tips, information and context for your reports.

You are a multi-platform journalist who can skillfully deliver a story to any of CBC’s news programs, whether on video, audio, live programming and on social platforms. You are a gifted writer with a strong track record.

Reporting to the Senior Producer of the Enterprise Unit, you will find and pitch original stories that are relevant to a wide audience. You respect and support the goals of reflective journalism and actively work to promote a variety of perspectives and lived experience in your work. You are collaborative and are open to feedback and suggestions to ensure the work that you do has maximal journalistic impact.

**Key Tasks**:

- Find and develop original stories of an enterprise or investigative nature.
- Pitch new ideas regularly to the leadership team.
- Develop and propose treatment plans for all platforms.
- Anticipate any legal or JSP issues and flag with leadership team.
- Once greenlit, conduct interviews for stories.
- Gather, synthesize and develop structures for stories.
- Write news or feature length stories for text, video, audio and social platforms.
- Work closely with team members to deliver stories
- In addition filing stories, present information and/or analysis on radio, tv and digital platforms.
- Pitch and see through follow-ups to original storytelling.
- Develop and maintain contacts with a variety of sources.
- University degree and training in communications or journalism, or equivalent.
- Seven years journalism experience; proven field skills and knowledge of broadcasting.
- Experience with enterprise and in-depth news reporting is required.
- Strong investigative news reporting experience.
- Excellent general and current-affairs knowledge and a deep understanding of equity-seeking communities across the GTA.
- Exceptional writing skills on all platforms. You will be asked provide samples.
- Ability to develop and present news and current-affairs stories.
- Proven on-air skills: interviewing, reporting.
- Enterprising approach to interviewing and fact gathering.
- Established contacts and a history of developing meaningful stories through them.
- Thorough understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
- Sound editorial judgment; strong critical and analytical skills.
- Ability to work well in a team and remotely.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate your day-to-day work so as to meet tight deadlines; ability to work well under pressure.
- Initiative and resourcefulness, as well as good interpersonal and communication skills.
