There is an opening for Forestry Technician within the Infrastructure Services Department, Operations Division available immediately. Reporting to the Manager of Operations Forestry and Horticulture, this position is responsible for the following duties:
**What you will be doing**:
The Urban Forest Technician plays a key role in the management of the urban forest within the City of Cambridge.
- Responds to calls from staff and public regarding tree safety, maintenance, bylaws, biology
- Conducts tree inspections, risk assessments, and plan related work using excellent customer service skills
- Creates and manages service requests and work orders, assign work to appropriate team
- Operates G class vehicle in all weather conditions
- Maintains urban forest asset registry using Geographic Information Systems.
- Manages and supervises work of contractors, ensuring compliance with all legislation and performance requirements.

**Education**:

- Completion of a recognized two-year college level forestry program or equivalent
- Certified Arborist
- International Society of Arboriculture
- Municipal Specialist Designation-International Society of Arboriculture or comparable designation
- G class Driver's License

**Experience and Knowledge**:

- 2-3 years experience in forestry/planning/environmental management or related field
- Field experience with tree identification, tree risk assessment, tree management planning
- Customer service experience, dispute resolution
- Effective use of work management systems, data bases, spreadsheets, and word processing software

- Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.
- Valid G driver's license.
- Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (may be obtained post offer)

**Your compensation**:
This position is within Grade 9 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $88,546 to $94,099. Full Benefits Package and OMERS included.

**Hours of work**:
The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the collective agreement, however, currently are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday. Overtime and standby will be periodically required.
