The Richmond Hill Canoe Club strives to be the best place to paddle in Canada We aim to give our members a transformational canoe club experience. The RHCC is seeking dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to fill a **number of coaching positions for the 2023 paddling season.**

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Camp Counsellor will work as part of the Canoe Kids team, coaching youth paddlers who are new to the sport of sprint canoe/kayak.

All coaches will display through their attitude and actions a desire to align with the club’s broader vision and goals as well as have an ability to recognize people’s strengths and communicate their potential consistently.

**Period of Employment**:

- Summer: July 3 to September 4, 2023

**Hours of Work**: Cover letter should indicate preference in either full time or part time.
- Full Time (30 hrs + per week) or
- Part Time (10 to 30 hours per week)

**Salary**: TBD (Based on experience and qualifications)

**Responsibilities**

**General**:

- A strong communicator who is open to feedback, curious to learn, takes initiative, and works well with others.
- An individual committed to being world class at the basics (aspects of paddling, fitness, relating to others).

**Specific**:

- Reporting to the Head Coach, implements programming for paddlers in the Canoe Kids program.
- Participates in weekly coaching meetings.
- Works with and supports other coaches and volunteers in the delivery of programming.
- Responds to emergency situations as they arise, with a demonstrated knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Communicates effectively and regularly with the Head Coach.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the CKC Safe Sport Policy, RHCC Harassment Policy and RHCC Code of Conduct.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and will enforce Covid-19 safety protocols, policies and procedures.

**Qualifications**:

- Experience working with youth, preference given for experience working in a sport setting.
- Valid CPR & Standard First Aid certification required.
- Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Certification required. (Please provide the Lifesaving Society verification code)
- CKC CanoeKids certification required (Offered through Canoe Kayak Ontario in June 2023)
- NCCP certification an asset. (Please provide NCCP #)
- SafeSport training and screening required (To be provided)
- Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card required.
- Orcka Levels 1 & 2 an asset (Offered through RHCC in May).
- Demonstrated knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics.
- Demonstrated ability to be dependable and punctual.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and be proactive.
- Ability to work in a team environment, to collaborate and to communicate effectively with staff, participants, parents and the general public.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time

**Salary**: $16.55-$18.55 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 35 per week

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
