The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.
**Position Title**: Pit Pub Promoter / Floor Supervisor
**Reports to**: Food & Beverage Operations Manager
**Supervises**: All Pit staff
**Employee Status**: Permanent, Hourly, commission
**Hours per Week**: 37.5
About the AMS
The AMS of UBC is a non-profit organization that is committed to serving the student body of UBC. We operate out of our new state of the art building, the NEST, located right in the heart of the Point Grey Campus. We run 6 food establishments and a Conference and Catering operations, which generates revenue to support our student programs and initiatives
**Position Purpose**:
Pit Pub is a night club themed outlet. Every Wednesday we have Pit Night and most weekends are booked by clubs and events companies.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Take responsibility for the daily performance and operation of the Pit including but not limited to scheduling, ordering, inventory etc.
- Ensure the successful and safe operation of the spaces, providing an excellent guest experience and quality management
- Work every day/night when there are events in the Pit.
- Organize marketing activities, such as promotional events and discount schemes.
- Manage Pit Social Media and update a week before every event.
- Respond to customer queries and complaints and take immediate corrective action.
- Meet and greet customers, manage line-ups, table and event reservations.
- Maintain high standards of quality control, hygiene, and health and safety
- Full responsibility for hiring, training, evaluation and delegation of duties as necessary
- Collaborate with other departments as required.
- Ensure 100% compliance with all legal requirements and AMS policies and procedures
- Ensure that all health & safety, fire and building regulations and procedures are complied with at all times.
- Maintain current and topical knowledge of the food and beverage industry, continuously updating the offerings at the Pit to match current trends.
- Establish healthy, ongoing work relationships with all law enforcement agencies (RCMP UBC detachment, UBC campus security, fire department, liquor inspector etc.), AMS departments and team members.
- Work with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department.
- Other duties as required

Qualifications and Experience
- Must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ Night Club or Pub general management experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience will be considered in lieu of full experience requirement
- Must possess strong leadership and team building skills
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
- Working knowledge of Point of Sale system, Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is required
- Superlative customer service and communication skills are a must
- Experience Promoting Clubs, events are required.
- Experience in Graphic development is required.
- Serving-It-Right Certification is required
- Food Safe Level 1 or higher is required
- Ability to lift 25kg (55lbs) is Required
- Ability to do work evenings and weekends is required.
- Nightclub experience is an asset.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Hospitality or a related field is an asset
- Experience working with youth or in a collegiate environment is an asset
- Occupational First Aid OFA level 1/2 is an asset

Compensation
- Base Wage: $20/hr
- Percentage tips on Bar Sales
- Percentage commission after base threshold of sales
- Discounted Meals
- Option to enroll for group benefit after probation period.
