Edmonton, Canada Circular Materials Full time

**OVERVIEW**
Reporting to the Managing Director of Alberta, the **Field Services Specialist** will provide support to the packaging and paper recycling programs to ensure the operational policies and practices established by Circular Materials Alberta are clearly communicated, understood, and followed in the field, resulting in greater overall efficiency and effectiveness, and leading to increased collection and diversion.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provide in-field training for collection service providers, primarily municipalities, on established policies and practices.
- Gather and analyze in-field best practices and provide recommendations on how these best practices can be incorporated into the curbside recycling programs.
- Write and maintain collection site toolkits.
- Attend and/or perform site and material audits to support business requirements.
- Promote and facilitate changes to municipal operations that support Circular Materials Alberta’s strategic and operational plans by providing support to municipal waste management and depot staff.
- Represent Circular Materials Alberta during discussions with various stakeholder groups, including Communities, Contractors, ARMA, RCA, and other industry related associations as needed.
- Working with outsourced service providers, oversee, lead and/or participate in (as appropriate) activities such as bale audits and waste composition studies that aim to improve the performance of Circular Materials Alberta’s waste diversion activities in the areas of material collection, transportation, processing, and materials marketing.

**Internal Relationships**:

- Consult with management to determine Circular Materials strategic and operational objectives.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information, conduct research and analysis, to test new systems and technologies and draw conclusions. Aide in the development of plans and strategies necessary to achieve the objectives of the position.

**External Relationships**:

- Collaborate with contracted service providers (municipal and other), Regional Service Commissions and other experts to gather information, conduct research and analysis, to test ideas and conclusions, and in the development of plans and strategies necessary to achieve the objectives of the position.
- Oversee and/or collaborate (as appropriate) with contracted service providers on research and development projects necessary to achieve the objectives of the position.

**Decision Making**:

- Executes associated operational plans.
- On site community support and strategy.
- Manages/oversees work of outsourced service providers.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:

- Post-secondary education related to environmental studies, business/program administration, engineering tech or related discipline, and/or related experience.

**Experience**:

- 2- 5 years’ experience in operational optimization, waste management, logistics contracting or related roles.
- Direct experience in paper & packaging recycling, stewardship, or related field is beneficial but not necessary.

**Knowledge/Competencies/Skills**:

- Ability to conduct detailed analysis and provide summaries and recommendations.
- Knowledge of waste management, materials management, commodity markets, and logistics or related operational business activities.
- Knowledge of Microsoft suite products including excel.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to prepare clear and concise administrative and technical reports.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively create and implement project plans.

**Working Conditions**:

- Flexible work schedule requiring periods of extended working hours to meet deadlines during peak periods.
- Requires travel within the province to meet with collection, transportation and processing partners and conduct site inspections.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
