The Office of the Vice-President, International (OVPI) engages with institutions in regions, countries and cities of strategic priority and leverages international opportunities for research, scholarship, learning and mobility. By providing leadership on international initiatives, OVPI develops and maintains key international partnerships.

**Your opportunity**:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, International Engagement and Impact, and working in close collaboration with the Associate Vice Presidents International Student Experience (AVP ISE) and International Partnerships (AVP IP). The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership to implement the University of Toronto’s International Strategic Plan with a particular focus on specific regions, including co-leading strategies across divisions and the development of strategic partnerships. This includes developing a strategic approach to internationalization across a range of international initiatives and activities in research and learning, providing strategic advice to senior leaders of the University on activities, trends, opportunities and strategies for mitigating potential risks, implementing international relations plans and priorities as determined by senior leadership, negotiation and assessment of university-wide international agreements, and managing external and internal relationships and events the University has with international partners, developing and implementing strategies tied to particular countries. The Director manages a team whose regional foci include the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America and the Caribbean, USA, and Europe/UK.

**Qualifications**:
**I. EDUCATION**:
Master’s degree in a related field or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

**II. EXPERIENCE**:
Seven years of progressively senior administrative experience in a related field with a broad knowledge of University procedure, policies and people. Familiarity with business culture an asset.

**III. SKILLS**:
High level of computer literacy required, including databases, excel and word.

**IV. OTHER**:
This individual must have a track record of having developed international strategies for highly complex organizations. Demonstrated ability to understand differences across countries and create strategies that position organizations successfully. Superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Professionalism, tact and discretion are of the highest importance for success in this position. Must being a talented and fluent writer who can communicate and negotiate in a professional manner on sensitive issues to counterparts in other countries. Proven success in providing superior service and support in a busy, demanding environment. Must be able to conduct thorough research, concisely summarize information and provide a rationale for action. Must have excellent negotiation, influencing and advocacy skills. Must be able to identify and understand emerging, policy issues as well as set and manage priorities. Must be able to provide high level advice on complex, varied issues. Must have developed project management and event planning skills as well as the ability to meet tight deadlines and to perform well under pressure. Able to deal confidentially with information that has legal and political implications. Must be able to work independently with limited direction.
